Looking For IEM and A Few Other Questions

Have used a cheap pair of skull candies and iPod for a few years. I'm big on high end home audio so I've decided to upgrade my portable experience. I just purchased a pair of hifiman re-400s and B&W C5 iems to test out. Curious as to what else would be recommended in the sub $400 range for IEMs? Was going to try the hifiman re-600s but most reviews say the price premiums are not worth it.

Also think I'm going to pick up a fiio x5 also. My iPod is old and seen better days, I would also love the additional storage. That alone sells me plus better audio quality. On that note, would a portable amp be beneficial in any way? Or are the amps ment more for larger headphone?

I want to use this set up to ride my bike back and forth to work. I carry a backpack daily so would have no issue carrying these items. These will be used 5 days a week, 6 months out of the year so I would like to set up a nice system. Well, within reason:). Can always go overboard with audio, coming from the guy with quad senton submerrsive HPs in the living room.

Also, type of music is hard rock and heavy metal (death, black, doom, thrash, ext.). I know that matters on brands of home speakers so it should influence items also.

The vsonic gr07 mkii bass edition are my favorites. They are coming soon again to lendmeurears.com

Really tough to beat at the price.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any others out there?

C5's arrived today and I am uncertain as of yet. They are undoubtedly the best headphones I have heard, new to this BTW. They have a great soundstage and the low end sounds fantastic, however the high end gets scretchy at times. I'm going to look at re-ripping some of my source material to see if that makes a different. I do not find the base overwhelming nor have issues with the fit like I've seen in reviews.

Also going to hold off on the x5 for another week. Waiting for the ibasso dx90 to start coming back in stock and may go that route. Researching as much as I can but its so new not much is out.

Keep the suggestions coming guys. Trying to find them by going through the forums but their are literally thousands of reviews to go through. Any help to narrow it down would be fantastic!
