I used this amp mainly with a pair of HD 650 and it does what it is supposed to do: it has way more power than I need, it's quiet and it makes everything sound in its place. I have never heard...
I bought these headphones just for the fun of it, to see how they sound with all that apparently amazing bass.
Well, for $50, they're ok sounding for extra bass headphones. They do have a...
Bought it some time ago, based on user reviews. Straight out of the box it seemed huge, especially compared to my old Cowon D2. Also, sound was awful. Granted, I don't have large hi-fi cans, only...
Along with the summary below, I have posted a Youtube video review of the ATH-CKN70. If you like the video, check out my channel for more reviews :)

Introduction
I’m a basshead. I say that loudly and proudly, even though some folks believe basshead and audiophile are mutually exclusive. Obviously, I’m not in that camp. But sometimes, I...
I just recently sent an email to Craig and I wanted to pass along the info I recieved in the response.
"I will start shipping HD300's next week and all the orders should be satisfied in a couple weeks after that. When the smoke settles and everybody is happy I will release the HD25, probably sometime in July. Right now it looks like the first run of HD300's will be the only ones built and tested, I think the HD300 will be offered as a kit only around the $395.00 with oil caps and no tubes. The HD25 will be offered assembled, tested with Electro Harmonix 6SN7 and Svetlana 6AS7 for $595.00."
On the surface the HD25 seems to do
everything why bother with the HD300? The HD300 is an OTL topology, no
transformer, perfect square wave response, with the input matching the
output, translating to very low distortion and excellent bandwidth. It
sounds different, on HD600 phones the HD300 is smooth and mellow. As a line
amp it is quiet and musical. I can see preferring the HD300 if your main
purpose was to use it as a line amp or to drive high impedance phones like
the Senn 600 or 650's. The HD25 is a transformer coupled design and there is
no such thing as a perfect transformer. Good can sound amazing and the HD25
has good ones, but it is a different sound. I think the Senn 600's sound
better on the HD300, but the HD25 smokes on the Grado RS1's, I mean they
really sound good and I don't like them. So what to you do, you sort of have
to know which amp topology you like and which headphones sound the best on
that amp.
Anyone have opinions on how each amp topology would technically sound?
Remind me again what the HD25 model is supposed to be? I remember Craig saying there would be a headphone amp that would work with all impedances. Is the HD25 it?
In his email I just dug up, he said he was making a HD24 (note the 4) amp after HD300. It would drive headphones 24 ohms and up and his goal was to keep it under $500.
No tracking number yet. This amp better be good after this wait. I keep reading about how great the ppx3 is and think about how many times I could have bought and sold the ppx3 during the time I have waited for this amp. Sorry, just a little bit of frustration. I am looking forward to getting that tracking number, however, I don't think it will before Thursday.
I called tonight and the amp wont be shipping tomorrow. The individual wiring the amp was ill and set production back two to three days. The earliest the amp will ship will likely be on Saturday. Then the first 5 will ship. Hopefully one us has them by the end of next week. One piece of good news is that Criag thinks the hd 300 sounds better than the prototype "roach amp".
I am lucky since I have some amps to listen to. But your right, the wait is becoming tedious. I feel for those ampless guys who expected the amp to really be done in six weeks.
I wonder whether it's time to get my money back that I have not had for the past 3 months and either be happy with my xp-7, which is a fine amp, or invest the money in a ppx3. The only thing I waited longer for was the birth of my children.
SACD, do you have an opinion on which sounds better with hd650's, the roach or the ppx3?

Sorry guy I have never heard the roach. The design certainly seems promising and I wanted its preamp capablilities and the rec out to be able to drive two amps from one source. The amp has the OTL design and features I have come to appreciate from a good headamp/preamp. However, I love the ppx3 period and it is so good with the 650's. We have waited this long and he gives a money back guarentee, why not? I am waiting it out for a couple more days. If you are not thrilled once you get the amp I would say its ppx3 time though.
Thanks for the words of wisdom. Saturday it is. I guess we can't lose with the money back guarantee. I should count myself as fortunate since I have an amp to keep me occupied during the wait.
