The Altmann Tera Player - Thread

Something else people who are considering Tera should be made aware is that Tera is very particular about headphones and is extremely selective about which ones it pairs well with - much more so than most of the other high end players (at least the ones I tried). I feel very strongly that the Tralucent ref1 and 1plus2 are on a different planet from all other phones when it comes to Tera - even modified Koss Portas which Charles recommends are not in the same league with these iem's. This is also why I learned to be suspicious of people dismissing Tera and/or claiming something new (whatever it may be) sounds better - because if they have not heard Tera with these phones (when they are properly burned in meaning have at least 200 hours on them) they can't even begin to appreciate what Tera is capable off. And do keep in mind that both of the Tralucent phones go for at least $1650 and that is with just stock cables. Best Tralucent uber cable will set you back at least another $1K.

Very good point.

For those of us that dislike/can't use IEM's the best synergy that I've heard with my Tera Player and cans (whilst maintaining portability) is with the Thinksound On1 and Audio Technica ATH-ESW9, both of which sounded considerably better than the modified Koss Porta Pro's.

It doesn't bother me at all but i don't understand why people complain about the Tera player in the first place, since they have never seen it or heard it.
First of all,i know that is expensive Charles developed and made it alone, took him 4 years and i hope one day to meet him and thank for it.
I wish more people can afford to buy it.
Let me speak for myself, I've been using one since 2013 and never had any problems at all, regarding the promised battery playback life,no bugs, anything.
The battery inside doesn't seem to charge less after the years like mobile phones today.
Tera in fact doesn't need a firmware update.
Now i am asking you,The Reader of this thread that you are thinking to purchase one or not:
How much money have sent since 2013 on all the gear including: headphones, music players, sdxc cards.
Anyway don't see many jumping in and answering.
Life is good, try to hear a Tera player before criticising it.

Guys, if you love the Tera and have said it, don't repeat ad nauseam, it makes it tiring and less credible.

If you hate it and have said it, there better be some argumentation behind, besides just price. Charles has hiked the price and forces no one to buy it. The price is ridiculous, end of discussion. I have own many AK players, believe me their price is insulting as well. If you have said you hated, don't repeat ad nauseam, it makes it boring too.

Just to remind some important information to those who are considering to get it (used, at a decent price), the Tera sounds incredible, but ONLY with certain iems. ALL the low impedance multi BA I have tried have huge bass roll off, i.e. NO BASS. It is not subtle, there is NO mid bass impact.

On the other hand with high impedance BA or hybrid dynamic, it sounds superb for something this size. In my collection, it only pairs well with Tralucent Ref1, 1plus2 and SE5 Ref or ultimate.

So you mean the Tera works well with Dynamic Drivers that many iems have and many other iemd designed in Hong Kong? Also that hybrid iems do well duch as the 1plus2 and other hybrids like the Sony Z5 and the new Rhapsodio hybrid ?

I can only speak about the phones I own which I purchased specifically for Tera. Tera is absolutely phenomenal with Ref1 and 1plus2 - to me better than any other portable player I have ever heard when used with one of those phones.
I also have RE-600 which works fine - but certainly not in the same class as Ref1 and 1plus2.
As far as over the ear - I think Koss Porta pro modded is great and all that's needed - for anything bigger some type of amp is needed. By the way I have Meier Quickstep and it works great with Tera - you get more output but does not change the sound.
If I wanted to use larger over the ear phones that would be perfect - but it's not needed for Ref1, 1plus2, or Koss.

Thanks for your input. Interesting that Koss which I bought for 40 Dollars can sound so good. I actually enjoy them when I am shooting Basket Ball.

Any experience with the Terra and the Fidue A83 it's a Hybird Dynamic?

Wish there were some sort of loaner program or tour

Or it'd be great if I could find one around $900 like what some have sold for recently... but I guess I could always wait until November 1st. Pretty sure the price won't go up as a surprise
