Magical indeed lol. I had back seats which folded down, and a moonroof was also nice to clean the sound up and for air circulation :P

...

Moving on, i thought these cans would die trying low frequency but they survived! I've been beating the $*** out of these for years and they just won't quit, and POUND as good as new.

@Hawaiibadboy seems to have much respect for its MA900 brother as well for its versatility. Sony does good work, so I think those Z1R will last decades as i doubt ppl will try and beat them to death.

i got paper moving (on flat sheet @BB 808 ) :p from 130hz all the way down to 1hz! on samsung galaxy tablet 2 7.0 > xtrempro m1 gain ON (3 oclock) BASS BOOST ON, no EQ change

If nothing else at the price range sounds good as the Zamp, i'll get another and repair it if need be..... I am having plenty of fun double amping my SZ's so it is not a priority. I can still make my hair wave with the sub freqs so it's not like I'm in bass withdrawal....

Check out the Emotiva Bassx 100, you can jump the resistor to the headphone out and run it straight off the amp if desired. I would put its sound on par/slightly better then the Z-amp.

My Zamp died as well.(while back)

Wow what is up with the Zamps dying?  I've swapped the opamp out of the V3 Zamp and with a Burson V5 it goes to a different level.

The Ashly SRA-120 sounds just as good as the Zamp, but it's a lot bigger.  Sometimes they can be found for 80 bucks.

Has anyone checked out the E-MU Walnut (Creative Aurivana Live! woodie remake)?

I actually am not looking for a Bass monster here, but he does listen to commercial Rap so bass should be decent.. I am just looking to get a good unit for my son for his Birthday (hes going to be 14, so full size over-ears are now a sufficient option). He likes wood things, even has a wooden watch. Any comments on these or alternative suggestions ($150 US budget)?

As someone who owns two pairs of Mike's cups, they are fantastic.  He has evolved with his finishing technology to the point the cups are the equal of Lawton's.  Very nice Teak cups I have on my LA7000.  Also had his Monkey Pod cups on the same headphone but sold them and prefer the Teak look.

To be honest. I knew mine was a bad cap. But the seller was willing to take it back since they were selling it for a client. I didnt know when i bought it that its history along with two other zamp v3s was so murky.

Was a little weird he only told me that after approving a return but.... It's not my problem anymore. However the zamp did sound mighty fine...

I did individual frequency test, and it doesn't seem consistent as i thought going down from 100hz-1hz. Some frequencies seemed more violent than ones i thought would be best like 30hz and 60hz or 45hz. Maybe im nuts but 20, 25 hz on the jvc seemed to be powerful which is surprising . I knew it can be good in the subbass region, but anyway all the bass made me confused and i probably am hallucinating. I had a dream about paper flapping on headphone lol ... i did 100hz to 1hz but i guess if one is hardcore, can test all individual notes like 99 hz 67hz 121 hz etc id say 130hz down for headphones. Its weird how you can always learn more and more by testing notes seperately. Anyway i wont list all the tests here, and only the most insane of bassheads would spend time watching paper move, but i was a basshead with car woofers and tinkered day and night to perfect the bass

i tried hm5 sheepskins if anyone is curious they are awesome. as well as xbpads which i highly recommend but i dont think anyone is interested, but i think they look nice on sz and they really open up the sound while keeping bass strong. IMO, my ears like em. Maybe you will maybe you won't :P

didn't think it would move but it did! :D

it is surprisingly fun to find the paper respond at 1hz!! though it looks like nothing gain is at like 75% (3 o clock) and bass boost on, and max volume on source just for that little movement:D

all 3 very success at 1hz!! i was very happy.

needless to say i was able to get some paper movement all the way up to 100hz!

mmmmmmmm dat basss

bass not lost with the pads! proof is there, and thats with shytey amp

Man this thread and my YT channel were built around dudes watching paper.

Not insane. Kinda chronic supersonic but not insane.

I have seen a single Hz (3 step movement)  but never heard above 17,18 and felt down to about 8 with some 15" Digital Designs.

Okay, chronic basshead in need of a portable set of cans.

Originally I was going to pick up a set of SZ1K's for portable use, but have since changed my mind. Reason being I find them a bit too big to be used on the go. All it took was one look in the mirror at myself with my SZ2K's on to realize lol. I just recently joined a local gym and would like to have the option of wearing over ears along with my IEM's. The SZ1K/2K are going to be too big for gym use I think.

So right now I'm looking at Vmoda M-100's with XL pads, or the Audio Technica Pro 700mk2's. I have plenty of amp power as I'll be stacking on the go, plus I use and love EQ so that isn't an issue. At the gym I'll mainly be listening to hip-hop/rap and EDM, and obviously still want that bass to slam. What do you guys think is my best option? Or any other suggestions?

I have heard and not interested in Vmoda sound sig but I would be interested in knowing your thoughts on 700mk2. I agree, being seen wearing SZ is too ridiculous, they are just too huge.

Nothing would make me happier than to get another Ford Excursion, and put 2 DD's in there (no pun intended) though well i won't complain with the idea of that which would be had the pun been intended. Look at me trying to be a phony writer. :D I saw this video online years back of a guy who put the 9500 or the 9900 in a tiny hatchback. It was a 15", and that was too much. The magnet on those higher end DD make it look like a weapon.

My sz1k look BEAST now with xb pads and i would rock it outside. Dont know about the m100 but the lp2 was great for portable but nightmare to work out with. Those stock shallow pads caused a puddle of sweating and i dont usually even sweat much at the ears. Best to go cheap, and the only cheap bass monster on the top of my head is JVC s500. Though you might need some hd25 pads, or like me who was lucky has some dtx350 to butcher the pads off of. Those pads are comfy, and i bet the hd25 are too.

They move paper!

that was only first try, i played around and it can take a BEATING!!! and super portable.

I wore them  on a skype call and was told i looked like a robot:happy_face1:  but dude i think you've seen my 9500's with boob cups as well, and my homemade woody cups headphones which made a $20 driivers sound like dollar store drivers.

Well I wouldn't plan on doing any heavy working out if I was wearing over ears, mostly due to the excessive sweating. If I was to buy M100's I would have to get the XL pads anyway, the stock pads are too small for me. My gym has a small indoor track that I sometimes walk a couple miles on, and that was what I specifically had in mind for over ear use. Hardcore workouts, I'll stick to my IEM's.

So I also just read about the Monster Npulse Over Ear DJ headphones, read good things about them. Some have said they have decent slam, not top ten worthy of course but slam none the less, and I can get them brand new for $60. So I'm really not sure what to get. I think at this point it's between the Pro 700mk2's and the Monster's due to pricing. If I get the 700's, I will probably buy some HM5 pads for them right off the bat.

And since these are going to be mostly for portable use, and the fact that I already have SZ2K's and TH-X00's that I use at home, I think I want to keep the cost under $200.

Not headphones but do you own XB90EX...?

They are not basshead but koss portapro are nice and light for workouts and can EQ bass and take amping better than most.
