Back in the late 90's (I was so young and innocent) I used to compete in car audio (SQ not bass race)  , there was a guy that had a Cyclone subwoofer based on that design, it was absolutely amazing sounding and took up no room in his trunk.

Ah,  found info :

One of my favorites to demo my bass heavy cans,

And the Liquid Stranger Track for me, really digs, it's quick, powerful and I can feel it diggin into my skin every time the beat hits, which is pretty often, so I find it very enjoyable

for me I like how a wobble feels on a proper can, like teh HE 4 or a modded D2k, the tactile transition in the bass line

This one is nice as well, wish I could give em a listen on your HE 6 q.q

Ok, so I use these tracks you've selected & use HIFIMAN HE-6 cans to get the dig bass?

well disregard my taste, use the HE 6 to Humor me and then use your favorite headphones and tell me what you think of the HE 6 with those tracks and what you think of your favorite headphone with those tracks

I'm more interested in hearing your preferance, hearing what you enjoy and why you like it. I know my tastes, and I'm curious to hear what yours are, your reasons for owning something like the HE 6 and the Sig DJ

The list is on cans I have heard with an ear towards testing. I only checked the 1000 because they were right next to the 2000

I am sure...that they are in fact more powerful than ..oh...8 of the top 10:D      Gotta officially test them though.

I'm leaving in 20 minutes to go do that.

I also have that Beats test track on my rig so after the standard 2 I can throw those at the  2 SZ's and Senn HD8 DJ...finally get a final verdict on those.

Hey HBB - no need for U to go runnin out to test the SZ1000's - Dubstep's volunteered his wallet to buy on of those bad boys and he's selling his beloved AKG 240's to part finance it all - expect full first impressions early next week I think..... cool.gif

Oh, wait a min - he's actually not doing any of that now and still keeping his AKG's smily_headphones1.gif

OJ biggrin.gif

but young Dubs did volunteer me for this rolleyes.gif

lol

Do so!

I don't mean to come off as attacking any one, I just find the reasons for your differances are worth finding out, why did my XB700... start to bore me? I kept shoving more bass into it but it never... was as enjoyable as the DT 880, he 400 and HE 4 are now, same can be said of the D2k. I like it, a lot more than the XB 700 which was a few steps bassier

I'm still wrapping my head around somebody talking about heavily modded D2k in a bass discussion.

This is really hard for cans to do. This is the extreme basshead thread. I don't think you own a heavier hitter than your SZ. However you could prove me wrong. That is on you.

I have put down a sample (not even close to distortion level).  Why would he still listen to these? Cuz he had a long day and wants a head massage maybe?

This is Bass.

I'm gonna do a vid of the modded 77x and the SZ with the beats track. You can do a vid ya know....takes a couple minutes;)

And I'm out....to test the sz1000 and Senn HD8 DJ

Why? After many Mods the D2k is still one hell of a bass heavy can is why ;3

but I'm more curious as to why the "bass massage" stopped working for me, I told you my roots. A modded XB 700 [mine was semi open back after I finished my mods] I can't tell you the number of guys who owned beats that... drop jaws when they heard my XB 700, it was like "strapping a pair of 12's to your head" and it really was...but it started to bore me after a while, I stopped enjoying it... and I wonder why for me it lost it's appeal and why for cb3723 whos got the best of the best headphones it seems, still enjoys it... not trying to persuade him just curious as to the "why"

My preferences are mainly EDM - the Sig DJ cans I've used since I got them just a couple of days ago, I've been playing Goa PSY on them and they are fantastic, especially the bass, absolutely amazing.

Couple of years back I used to make my own cheeky mixes up on the fly - mainly bounce, hardcore, hard house, trance etc

I've a few on YT, here's a couple of them:

I'd love to make a dub step tune with some real HQ recordings of natures nastiest drops, put a 60 hrz Wobble a top of some 5-15 hrz kicks :3

truthfully I need a decent Sub, I used to listen to my DnB on a little 12" [after 2 years I blew it out] My HE 4 does a nice job at captureing some of the tactility that lil Sub had, but I do miss it! And yes I'd like one of those! Scare teh hell out of my neighbors at 12 am ;3

Yeah, c'mon headphones, we gonna just sit here and let them speaker guys out do us in bass!  I say never!  (I dont be wantin no ear choppers in my headphone either)

I assigned 2 X15 inch midwoofers to subbass but the port noise kills it for me when I want a mini concert in my listening room...so to reduce this I parralled another 2 X 12 inch woofers.  Then my brother was over and I wanted to check his high frequency cut off (it was better than mine)...then I had an idea to find out what we perceive below 20hz ... after the signal stops becoming a pure tone.

At these mini perfomance volume levels...the sine sweep starting at 5 hz was easily detected by my eardrums as positive pressure pulse.  increasing in frequency and amplitude as the sweep increases in frequency.  I was joined by my brother at 10hz (neighbourhood dogs were with me all the way...barking and howling as the pressure waves also instilled a sense of great unease with me.  I wanted to turn it down for fear of waking up neighbours, my brothers response was that nobody was waking up to these faint rumbles which he heard after 10hz....which for me has increased in volume after 10hz.

A tone was formed at around 20hz for me and was joined by my brother at 25hz, where a tone started to form for him.  Meanwhile all this time the dogs are uneasy and very noisy in the neigbourhood the whole time.

Infrasonic energy is abundant in the natural world.  We hear it when we have the windows open in a car.  In engines, trains in a subway, rough surf, high wind, waterfalls, thunder and of course earthquakes.

The reported negative emotions associated with infrasonic energy means such energy is ideal in the creation of music to generate more human emotions in our music.  In due time when the pursuit of virtual reality perferction becomes paramount, scientists will re-visit this area.

One must also consider that the start of soundwaves is the beginning of most of the waves we read to map the universe.  Also, relevant to the hi fi world is that bass waves moves the entire ear drum system which affects how we perceive higher frequencies as those, with the presence of bass waves, are superimposed on top of the moving drum assemby.  With the absence of low frequency energy, the high frequencies are received by a stable and still drum assembly.  Something about full body sound and high frequency air being incompatible with one another.  Higher frequency sounds 'slices' the ear drums, low frequency is absorbed by the entire microphone assembly in the ears.

Food for thought.  (sorry for the de rail.  I follow this thread a lot and love to be intoduced to new music and headphones)

There is plenty of sub bass from the SZ, I have actually been messing around with them to tighten up the clarity from the other aspects.

I tried some reflective Dynamat (they sound a bit muffled to my ears) in the cups and it did not go so well, it created a screaming back wave of treble that made my dog snap at me.....I actually like the way the SZ responds off of my tube amps, it sounds much more natural but the bass becomes less energetic and a bit more wooly. To emulate that sound and retain what it does well (bass) with solid state,  my next move is a bit of fiber loft in the cups.

These have amazing potential, but my limited skills may not be up to task. they are horrible to break down and put back together (tons of parts).

I do run an analog EQ ( NOS Pioneer 9800) that IMHO is one of the best EQ's ever made, so I can balance out the frequencies a bit, I hate digital programs so I will not be trying any of those.

I am actually glad I got caught up in a bit of controversy on this thread, it made me break out the SZ and try some different things.  I picked them up when they came out and wrote them off without giving them enough time. They are by no means a bad Headphone, I just thought they were not for me. I was expecting them to sound like the DX700  I used to own and still regret getting rid of.

If anyone is interested in my mod progress feel free to PM me.
