Yeah,

I don't link to or price anything. That's not my gig. I'm not a sales person. These are bass hits Nobody was gathering the hardest hitters without being bashed as a non audiophile.

I'm not an audiophile.

I'm a basshead.

Damn proud of it.

Yeah , if ya like mids the A.A. and the 77x are not for you.

Some others on the list are good across the board but not those 2.

I wouldn't in anyway call myself an audiophile. I love bass, but I also like some sound quality. I can't stand headphones without bass. I would never think about buying headphones like Sennheiser or even DNA.

If you can ever try that paper vibe test with the wiz track on an amp I'd appreciate it.

Oops just saw the previous post of yours

Yeah, I lost my amp. I will do it if I'm able to get another. Burning in my Krakens over night. Let's see if they improve. If anyone is looking for a good burn in track, put this on loop .New Speaker/Headphone Burn In Track. Pink Noise, …: http://youtu.be/L3CiZxstvEA

Wow they sound a lot better. The bass is much tighter and harder. Bass not distorting. There are also a lot more detailed.

M-AUDIO HDH50 Mod/ AKAI AP HPH 002 mod

@Oregonian

Let me know how your HDH50 go. This mod will not effect the crystal clear clarity but will enhance low end when amped

And if they are cannons out the box.......let me know My list is always waiting:cool:

They are capable out of the box, amazingly well built and comfy, but I'll be trying your mod bro. For sure.

I have held a ton ....a ton of cans in my hands and these have a balance/comfort/sturdiness that is quite appealing. Very comfortable as they should be if they are to be used for long studio monitoring.

I'm expecting the pads twist off, the grills are the same and you're met with the same rear driver profile

Where's the rest of the mod post? I can't find it with the pics. Any help is appreciated and I'll open her up tomorrow night. Thx.

EDIT - took pad off as you described. Looks identical. You were right. Now just need mod info.

Driver as is.

Tried 1-3 vents.

1  = Really no diff. amped or unamped.

2  = Slam when amped and eq raised.

3  = Bloated response that bleeds into/overtakes mids. Bass hit loses control under big amp anyway. Destroys the cans sig and gives you mud

#2 appeared the best for a while. I accepted that these could slam decent but not vibe your head.

However questions cropped up.....why? It's 50mm and it's clearly a high quality driver as it really tried to keep it's sound before I cracked it open.  I looked at it like a bigger dynamic driver and decided to make the venting "balanced". Why? because the distortion these were giving was of a warping kind. That was the rear of the diaphragm getting sucked or pulled unevenly.

Decided to put the 2 opposite and cobver the pole vent as it is designed to cool the voicecoil/motor assembly in huge drivers. Not needed here

Tried puling the screen off and going 2 opposite vents and mud....just like 3 vents.

Holding the wires at 6pm and holding the driver up to a light and find the 9pm and 3pm holes. As in the top pic I used a razor blade to cut the backing material. (that pic has joined open vents so don't do that) But using a razor open the 3,9pm. Cover the pole vent/hole. Use thick double sided tape of something thick.

You now have a Q40. With +10cm of driver.

The mids and highs even under amp will not be reduced in quality. I took these apart 11-13 times so I could play

(listen to him digging in his pocket and know that one mic is right there. You can hear it all .These cans are awesome. The mod does not effect this)

And I like me some:

So you can hear the harmonica and guitar or feel the bass.

Congrats on getting a very very fine set of cans indeed. I have said it twice before so one more time to make it 3....I wouldn't sell these even if I got full price back. I paid more than you and I think I got a steal.

Good luck. No caffeine before modding;)

apple wasn't the one who updated the solos. Beats was planning it beforehand.
