how did you know those two? YouTube? And yeah... Always nice to have some "thump" from your headphones every once in a while. I've only had an open back headphone for a few months. I'm finally getting some closed back this week. Even though they are 40mm, I still can't wait.

Okay, I'm just finally coming around to being a full blown basshead. Well, I always have been. I do love reference sound for classical and all that jazz, but when it comes to certain genres, the sub bass is  part of the ensemble, and if its not represented, you aren't hearing it right.

So I've owned a pair of Denon AH-D600s for a while. I bought them for their bass impact and comfort, and they've turned out to be a stellar performer.

Recently, I purchased JDS Labs C5D. It has a very powerful Bass Boost section built right into the amplifier.

Combined this with CanOpener (iOS).

CanOpener on its own, the EQ is excellent, and it automatically balances the full spectrum for you. This means you can amplify the bass without getting any distortion. Built-in levelleing and compression algorithm also helps with this. CanOpener is also great for its crossfeed, but thats another thread.

Combine a maximum bass curve on CanOpener and enable the C5Ds maximum bass gain setting on top of this.

:basshead:

I have never heard my D600s do this. I feel like I'm in a car with an awesome sub system. I'm almost afraid they are going to break, but that's not likely. The whole headphone is rattling to pure, unadulterated sub bass. The rest of the spectrum clear too.

These headphones are very very capable with that respect. Respond extremely well to EQ.

Listening to Benton - Virus off 'Reflections' LP.

So if anyone is looking for a good amp/DAC combo or just the amp version I'd check out JDS Labs C5D and C5.

Yeah, one of my late night youtube browsing adventures eventually lead me here.

*edit* Oh, I'll be pairing the sz1000 with the magni/modi, I'm curious to see how its going to sound. I haven't read anyone else try this combo out yet.

OH @ati832, is the Accidentally Extraordinary AE 51'st studio's any good for bass? I know they have 40mm drivers. smily_headphones1.gif

It seems ati832 attacked me saying D600's are not basshead cans nor are Pro900's and I misled him or something to that effect.   ati, if you feel I misled you it was only in trying to help.  Sorry.  As you know, we all hear differently and I stand by my original contention that the two cans are great bass cans when fed right.

Most of my replies are to honestly try to help guys and give them other perspectives.   There are other ways to experience great bass besides a Cowon/E-12.  Many.  But I realized it's like swimming upstream to offer contradictory suggestions here so as the saying goes, no sweat off my nose.  The atmosphere here is not conducive to sharing perspectives in this thread, or at least from me, unfortunately.   Far from it.   It could open up different combinations.  Imagine an Arrow 3G out of a SZ-2000.  Or double amping a ZO with an E-12 into the TH-900.  Could be epic.

*Am I reading the second part right?  We are not "allowed" to discuss things other than what you deem acceptable?  Really?

So to keep it on topic, try the following -

Arrow 3G portable amp.

Add a ZO to the chain with another amp.  Since this is about extreme bass, can't get much more extreme than that.

For non-portable usage, try a vintage amp.  Throw the loudness switch and try that bass.

Take care gents.

Guess I missed it as well...

Bolded black: yeah, everything seems to be "Extreme" here... :p

Bolded red: LOL!!! Ownership much!

I will be at my PC tonight (maybe... work work work) and I'll try to mess with the D5000s. Question: which non/less-crappy EQ do you guys use in Windows? Do you use Foobar + xxxx_Equalizer, or do you use another media player and built-in EQ? etc.

I have no doubt that NewWaveAudio is feeding the mighty Kraken in preparation for the oncoming slaughter fest...after all....the Kraken is the current tournament favourite.....I'm also expecting ati832 to be preparing his significant arsenal of 40mm cannons too... evil_smiley.gif

Accidentally Extraordinary AE 51'st studio these are not for bassheads, they have a very pleasant sound to them but not basshead material, and if its the battle of the 40mm I already know which one is going to win lol. maybe someone can but an xb500 into the mix also the hd8dj should be in it also. But I do have a new contender for top 10 basshead list but not going to show you guys yet also it is a summit fi headphone also.

@Malfunkt thanks for the amp and EQ advice bro - this is new gear & software info you bring to my attention for sure and also this thread, as far as I know smily_headphones1.gif

Good to hear your D600's rattle your head with this combination evil_smiley.gif

Perhaps you could download the below bass test mix for your bass/paper video? very_evil_smiley.gif

I've already done a bass/paper test for the hd8 DJ and will be adding them to the 40mm fight club tournament along with many others wink.gif

Good call on the XB500's - any owners who would like to make a bass/paper test video, would be greatly appreciated for sure and being younger bro to the XB700 I understand their relevance - what size drivers do the XB500's use? smily_headphones1.gif

xb500's are 40mm and yes I will make a video tomorrow first thing, showing the new bass contender for the top 10 list. I was surprised when I listened to it as it was meant for some serious listening and they turned out to be monsters when eq was applied and there perhaps the best looking headphones I own.

Does the XB500 even lift?

ie is it even Kraken beating material do U think? blink.gif

I flunked bass science frown.gif but would love to know what the sweet Jebus makes the Krakens 40mm's push the paper so hard as shown so well by NWA confused_face_2.gif

Respect to NWA & his amazing Krakens for sure - looking forward to watching those monsters roar again, hopefully in the upcoming tournament smily_headphones1.gif

xb 500's were the first basshead headphones I had this is the can that started this for me and they go hard on the bass, it will come in second the krakens will be first and hd8dj will be third I have no idea what razer did for the krakens they just murder the bass honestly they are like a cheaper version of the xb1000's and thats shocking, heaven knows what a 70mm kraken would sound like.

also another really awesome 40mm can and I mean really awesome can is the rha950i OMG the sound from this is amazing and the bass for such a small headphone it pounds and is a worthy basshead headphone, I sold mine as they were just too small but if anyone is into portable basshead cans get these and they really cheap also no distortion whatsoever even pushed with my crazy set up. I am currently looking for a good sound card for the EQ and a few new amps and after that will buy some more headphones and the amps that are out these days are amazing.
