In a nutshell I was trying to trim the high end of the ebony filter and reduce the bass of the silver filter and combine them into a new filter while keeping all the midrange.

Did you do this all by ear or was their test gear involved? (scope, frequency generator etc...)

Test gear to start with and all rest by ear. I would say 80% is done by ear.
