So many choices oh and 'Hi'

Hi I've been noseying around here for while and finally joined.

I could do with a little help and advice from all you knowledgeable folk.

My old faithful Etymotic Hf2's have finally packed in (after about 4years) on my walk home from work.  1st the right ear went then the left.

Prior to that I had some Shure E2Cs (lasted about 3years) and loved them.

So it's time for a new pair, I've read reviews etc and have narrowed it down to a few but of course I have questions.

My budget is £50-£100.

IEMS

Shure e215,  based on my previous e2c's I loved the fit and isolation of these.

Klipsch Image x10i, recommended by a friend.

Or do I go for some headphones rather than IEMs my main usage is walking/commuting to work so I need something with good isolation.

I've read very good things about the AKG 451's and 551's

Would there be a big jump in sound quality moving up to headphones?

What kind of difference is there between the 451's and 55's sound wise.  I know the 451's are more portable etc but are the 551's twice as good.

Are there any other options for my useage and budget?

The more I look and read the more confused I get.

Thanks in advance.

Scott

Thanks Matt,

My only concern with these is the durability of the cable for commuting/walking both pairs of previous IEMs failed at the cables which is one of the reasons I was considering the Shures.

Any other options within the same kind of price?

Thanks again

These will have a better cable and good sound quality. I'd still pick the vsonic though.

Thanks again Matt. Everytime I get close I find something different.
Now looking at the RHA MA750i these seem to have much better cables and the iPod remote. They also seem to campare quite well with the VSonics in reviews.

How do IEM's compare with similarly priced on/over ears such as the akg 451's as these can be had for around hall the price of the others I've been looking at?

Are they half as good?

I did like the look of the 551's but after reading 4,567 reviews it would seem they're no good for commuting.

I'm still drawn to the Shures mainly due to the remove able cable and I like the fit of my old shures.

Thanks again.

By way of an update, I eventually went with the Shure SE215's and ordered an addition cable from ebay with ipod controls.

I've tried them a couple of times so far due to work and am using the largest foam tips. I'm thinking of changing to the next size down or some triple flanges becasue the seal is maybe too good. I can't hear anything around me but can hear my own footsteps as thuds so need to have a play around.

The bass is more pronounced than my etymotics which I prefer and much less clinical sounding.

Happy so far though, and they seem much better made than my previous sets.

Thanks for the help.
