Premium SENNHEISER HD 800 Audiophile Setup - Page 2

It's the best portable dac/amp on the market today.  If your like me on the go, it's a God send.  Your HD 800's will work great on it without a separate amp.

But now I need an amp, so would the legendary Woo Audio WA7  be the best choice or the WA2 be a better pick

Sorry, haven't heard either so I can't be sure, but doesn't the WA7 have USB input? It'll have both a DAC and amp in it if that's the case.

Would this effect me playing music or the sound quality?

Also, wouldn't the thin cheap copper USB cable get interference from other stuff in the laptop?

This is why I prefer dedicated headphone sources......

If you're using USB it shouldn't interfere with playback, unless it's a software problem that may also affect the USB drivers. I also prefer "dedicated" sources, except right now with all my expenses I'm not rushing into a media server just yet. My Android works fine though - easier to swap out music, I set it on Airplane Mode and calls won't interrupt (not that even with the network and data running actually interferes with the sound) - but it's really just a hold-over until I have enough to upgrade to a music server.

In any case it's 2014, so it won't be an irrational consumerist drive anymore to get a new one. All laptops I've owned sevrved me for four to five years.

P.S.S.- My goal is to find a setup that makes the HD800 sound a million times better than my iPod Touch 5G hooked up directly

I find it hard upgrading to a separate DAC for the same reasons. A bunch of other DACs and CDPs just color the sound more than the USB DAC in my Cantate.2 amp, if anything the soundstage is a bit more 2D but I don't mind it too much considering.

Sorry but its out of my budget

Plus I think I like the looks and functionality of desktop amps more

It's already out of production, so I use it as an example but as a suggestion to purchase (unless you're fine with used gear - I waited for one of these here and now there are still only TWO of these here). The Meier Jazz has no DAC but it's also cheaper though, although the DACCord+Classic amp combo is available for around $1,200 including shipping.

Here is Meier Audio's current lineup: http://www.meier-audio.homepage.t-online.de/amplifiers.htm
