SPEAKER amp or dac.. HELP!

Guys i juz bought pair of entry level psb lr1, needs an amp or a dac.. any suggestion? i got a bad soundcard in my laptop =(.. about $200..

Why are you asking if what you need is an amp or DAC? You will definitely need an amp, so it's a matter of whether you can squeeze in a DAC too for that budget. Here's an amp with an integrated USB DAC in it: Topping VX-1.

LOls.. i mean dac like combo(amp with an integrated USB DAC in it).. not dac alone.. haha.. is this Topping VX-1 good? audioengine d1 looks good too.. hmm...

The PSB LSR1 are passive monitors, right? So they need a speaker amplifier. The Topping VX-1 has a speaker amplifier (see the connections on the back). The Audioengine D1 is just a headphone amp/dac/pre-amp--no speaker amplifier.

To add to what cel4145 posted, be aware that some devices that are called "amps" may not be distinguished in terms of whether they're designed for speakers or headphones, the same way that not all speaker amps have a headphone output out front (and whether it works well enough with certain headphones).
