I havent even mentioned the HE6 due in June either. I had one before but getting it back again and it should be classified as Audiophile Bass. The punch and depth on the HE-6 being fed properly is something to behold.

I'd LOVE to hear the HE6 myself. I'm actually rebuilding my collection of cans. I have the D2k w/cocobolo cups, an LCD XC, and an M100 (the M100 I wanna sell/trade). I've got a Vali, E07k+E09k, and a Digizoid Zo2.3. I wanna get a DT 770 premium, JVC SZ2000, Some kinda bassy open backed planar (haven't made up my mind yet on which one, HE6/LCD 3). I wish I could get out to a few meets and events (like the one happening in Newport out here) but my wheelchair and lack of transportation severely limits what I can do so everybody's impressions here on head-fi help me IMMENSELY, especially in a thread like this with others who have a tendency to lean towards the kinda sound I like.

I appreciate every impression every one of you all in this thread posts. Just want you all to know that.

Try this thread also for HIFIMAN's amp made to measure for their HE-6's:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/593646/review-hifiman-he-6-ef-6-an-elite-headphone-system-under-one-roof wink.gif

And here's HIFIMAN's advice on which is the bestest amp for the HE-6 wink.gifwink.gif

ps - beware of anyone who owns the HE-6 and doesn't drive it with the EF-6 - they are 99% guaranteed to be crazy & have imaginary invisible friends they shout at in public..

my advice - go EF-6 & join the audio elite jet set - it's like pouring fine champagne in your ears - and more! biggrin.gif

I'm dying to try a HE-6 with my Pioneer Spec amp system (vintage 1979 with 250wpc)..............if grizzlybeast gets his repaired/replaced unit back I'll be able to respond on how they work.  Then if they are what I expect, I'll be buying them, putting them in the system via speaker taps and then...........then the fun begins.  I wouldn't do the speaker taps with a loaner.

How much does your vintage 79 amp weigh?

The EF-6 may be current but at 10 kgs it's a lead weight - you could use one for hot air balloon ballast.

Good job it does a sterling job - be interesting to hear your reports on how the HE-6 fairs with a vintage amp for sure smily_headphones1.gif

Has anyone hear tried the JVC FX800? I know the JVC woodies have a reputation among bassheads, but there isn't much out there on these, and I'm going to be picking up a pair soon, so I'd like to hear if anyone has anything to say.

Hey guys,

I had started another thread asking about what would be a good upgrade to my Shure 535 before finding this thread to which no one responded until yesterday. This person suggested planars such as he-400, he-500, and lcd-2.

Anyway, I noticed that the he-400 is on our list but not he-500 or he-6.  Is that on purpose?  Why is the he-400 the superior phone despite being the least expensive from hifiman?

They are very awesome - check how much craftsman ship goes into just the wood earcup enclosures, in below video, and it gives you an idea of just how much attention to detail goes into the manufacture of this can , even the 6.3mm jack housing is made from duralumin - strong, hard, lightweight alloy of aluminum, widely used in aircraft, for higher durability.

FOSTEX have upgraded the supplied headphone stand from prior wire type to all black finish wood type with white Fostex branding on base.
