The Audiophile Bass Lounge (Basshead club part II) - Page 14

Thread Starter

I went and had a demo of the Monster DNA -

IMO: What I heard was definitely not worthy of a basshead list.

OFFICIAL BASSHEAD THREAD VOTE:

SHOULD THE MONSTER DNA HEADPHONES BE ON THE LIST?

My personal vote: It shouldn't be there. But I will do what the majority wants!

Well you already have my vote :-P

I go to listen to the DNAs yesterday. My overall impressions: don't add it to the list. The bass is strong and emphasized, but I don't think it's worthy for basshead ears. They sound pretty great, though.

Can gaming headphones be added to the list? Picked up a $60 gaming headset for my Xbox, and I was absolutely blown away by the sound. Amazing, extended, vibrating bass. Incredibley clear and accurate sound. Didn't know gaming headsets could perform like that. These will probably replace my JBL.

ewww do we have tiers for our bass head thread? And should my heaviliy [yes it should nvm] but yea... OH HEY I need to ask you guys, does any one who owns a TH 600 or Fully Modded Lawton D2/5k what do you guys think of the V Mods XS, I REALLY need a pair of gym headphones and honestly all I need is some decent sound stage some tight bass and some airy highs [dry mids I am expecting]

I'm thinking about something like the Beyer DT 1350, but I want something that won't sound like utter crap when compared to my LA D2k

Hey, second that. The Kraken's a pretty good headphone, I have to say. I got the Kraken Pro for about $55 on sale.

I could say they're basshead-worthy, but "incredibly clear and accurate sound"? Nah, that's what the Krakens definitely cannot do. Their bass is powerful, digs down deep, and rattles the cans themselves, but is incredibly bloated in the upper bass region. However, I do have to say that the Krakens respond very well to equalization. With a simple upper-bass reduction, you could really feel the sub-bass in there. Honestly, I've never heard basshead stuff, but the Kraken sure is.

Add it to the list, I say!

I know Sony XBA-H3 is there already but I thought I'd share the EQ settings as I'm too ham fisted for a tape mod (probably tape mod hole was too large when made with a pin)

H3 (tone bass 0)
clip+/rockbox parametric eq settings
Ls0
band| dB, f, q
1|1.5-3.0,40hz,2.0
2|-2.5,180hz,2.0
3|-3.0,280hz,0.8
4|-1.5,500hz,0.7

this takes off the excessive (disgusting) mid and upper bass, and brings out the nice sub bass/bass.
These have a flavoursome mids tuning ala Ex700 to me (very nostalgic and loveable for sweet forward lower and more so, upper mids) and a bit of extra bite on the 8-10k range making them sound sweet and fun but fairly detailed and generally forgiving for sibilance and excess 10k mastering. You may find using something other than the horrible ergonomics stock cable (that to be fair works with the the chin guard) to be a better fit.

Picked up an amp today for my new headphones, and the difference is amazing. The bass is even better. If anyone is looking for a good amp on a budget, I recommend the Auvio amp from Radio Shack for $30. 10-40khz 8.5db gain 150mw 11 hour battery life. It has 4 eq settings

Hi everyone, for myself I use the EarSonics EM32 for its sub bass et bass impact that are just incredible for an IEM. You can find it here : http://www.earsonics.com/ecouteurs-musiciens/em32/

I like to use my Denon D600 too but its mids are something like metalic and I dislike them, that's why I just use it for EDM.

Does anyone know of some good amps under $80 that have good sub-bass boost? I'll be upgrading form an E6 soon.

Any news on when Digizoid will release the Zo3? I'm really excited to try it once it comes out. I want to experience the skull-rattling bass everyone talks about L3000.gif

Off the top of my head, I can think of the FiiO E11, Digizoid ZO-2.3 (but it's amping capabilities are sketchy, people like to combine it with the E11 to make up for this) or maybe the E12 if you get really lucky and snap one up used.

I hated the DT1350 comfort when I tried them. I'd recommend the T51P or the HD25 ALU (if you can get one for cheap-ish and if not the Amperior). I haven't had any experience with the XS so can't help you there, sorry.

I was thinking about the E11 as well, that was my first choice, but I am also curious about the ZO3 like xkonfuzed is and would gladly drop money for it if it is worth it. I'm not really interested in used products, so I may not go with the E12 unless it's worth more than it costs.

Unfortunately the Zo3 is not available yet, and the Zo2 has been discontinued. I believe you can still find the Zo2 on eBay though.

Oho, you're willing to stretch your budget :veryevil: (welcome to head-fi and sorry about your wallet)

There's hardly anything in the $80 and under price range that will satisfy your wants. Scale up to roughly $200 and there are far more options e.g. ZO3 (probably will be under $200, don't think its confirmed yet though), Arrow 3G, JDS C5 and E12 (new). I have personally auditioned the E12 and C5 and can testify to their bass boosts. Again, these suggestions are off the top of my head.
