need solution for toslink to headphone (hdtv doesn't have headphone jack)

hi all,

i’ve been a lurker for awhile and really enjoy the form.  finally have a question.

recently got a new hdtv (panasonic td-p50st60) that does not have a headphone jack, only optical digital out.  i’m looking for a solution so i can use my headphones.  i don’t a receiver because i don’t have the room.

from looking around, it seems like i need a headphone amp with a toslink in and headphone jack out.   i’ll be using it to primarily listen to movies.  while i’m at it, it would be great if it had usb in as well so i could use it with my computer.

there’s a few threads on this but wanted to throw it out again to see if there was a newer product that was a good match for my needs.

i’d like to spend around 150 but if a bit more money gets a lot more quality, i’d consider it.

i have the following headphones:

M4U 2

Sennheiser HD595

Beyerdynamic DT-770Pro (32ohms)

Ultrason HFI 780

Ultrasone Pro 900

Thanks!

edit:  it's the digital optical toslink, not the coaxial

A FiiO E17 comes with USB, optical & coaxial inputs.

You could also get a FiiO D3 DAC and Schiit Magni amp.

Just curious - why are you interested in getting the signal out from your TV? The TV must be being fed (likely via HDMI port) an audio signal from a bluray player, game console or cable TV box. All those items likely have other audio outs, analog in addition to digital, you could hook up a simple/cheap amp or a DAC if you so choose.

Are you trying to use your TV as a sort of receiver so it selects for you your audio source (obviously whatever you happen to be watching)?  Just make sure there's no delay on the TV optical out. There was a slight one on one of my Samsungs that made it unusable for that purpose.

Best,
