Fiio E18 or JDS Labs C5D.

Check Fiio E18. It's an amp/dac too.

the fiio e12 I have is fantastic for portable or desktop use (see note above); no DAC in that model but the amp section drives the 600ohm extremely well. I use a Schiit Modi DAC when I am parked, and just the on board DACs when mobile. I have Mac/apple stuff and the onboard DACS are good enough for such use. But I don't really take the DT880s around very much...I have smaller headphones for that use.

If you don't mind spending less, a cmoy from JDS labs works well. I used a cmoy with the DT-990 250 ohm for quite a while and enjoyed it as a first amp.

If portability isn't necessary there may be other options. An ODAC and/or O2 might be an option. They sure sound better.

HI Zorrofox,

Sorry for my delayed feedback!

I have decided to go for the DT880.

Yes, If the amp is going to be permanently attached to a USB on a desktop or laptop, it might cause problems with the E18's internal battery.

I always unplug it when not using it.

I´ll use the DT880 mostly at home but also in some traveling. For portable I have the RHA 750 IEM and they sound really great with the E18.

The only thing I´m concern about, is that the specifications of the E18 says Impedance Recommended (32 to 150).

The Dt880 have 250. I know the E18 drives your HD650 (300Ohm) on low gain but then why do they recommend until 150 ohms?

The E12, in other hand it says form 32 to 300 ohms.

Maybe the Fiio E12 (amp only) or E18 (amp+dac).

Maybe Fiio E12 (amp only) or Fiio E18 (amp+dac).

I'm not sure to be honest. The E12 is certainly more powerful than my E18 though. If I hadn't been looking for a DAC/amp for Android I'd probably have gone for the E12. Still, the E18 does drive my HD650's very well. On the other hand it sounds strained with my 38 Ohm AKG Q701's. Go figure.

My e12 works well with the dt880 600 ohm and I have read other posts that agree, in spite of what the box says. but I do not know about the e18. you might be pushing a lower powered amp which might affect sq and/or put strain on the amp.
