Hello all, this issue has been driving me crazy for some time. High pitched noises are crackling on certain tracks. The guitar shredding in the beginning of Blood Brothers by Papa Roach is the worst that I've ever heard it. I have also heard it on female vocals, particularly higher pitched ones like Carrie Underwood. I might be hearing it when there is a ton of instruments playing at the same time, but Its hard to tell with so much going on.
Here's my set up on Windows 8.1 64bit:
Google Play Music All Access/Spotify Premium: Both are 320kbps The crackling occurs on both of these services
HififmeDIY USB isolator: I have tried disconnecting this from my DAC, crackling was still there.
Schiit Modi: I have tried sending it everything from 16/44.1 to 24/96, crackling is still there. Please note that I have also hooked my amps directly to my motherboards 3.5mm out, still there.
Schiit Magni/Little Dot MKII: Crackling occurs on both of these amps.
Beyerdynamic DT990 PRo 250 ohm/Sennheiser HD598: Crackling can be heard on both, although it is more prevalent through the Beyers, seeing as they are brighter.
Edit: Is it possibly the streaming? Or have my ears simply graduated past 320kbps.
I have also fiddled with the Windows system volume and the music players volume slider. No effect on the crackling either.
Is there anything I can try? Any other setting I'm missing?
Any suggestions would be most excellent. In fact if you solve my issue, I will email you a cookie. A really good cookie. From Potbellies.
