O2 AMP + Schiit Bifrost

Thread Starter

So I just Ordered the O2 and I am going to buy the Bifrost in a month. Is this a good combo ? Will it be better than my E17+E09K Combo ?

what I really need to know is that whether O2 and Bifrost go well together ... Can O2 compete with the higher priced Schiit Amps ? like Asgard 2 ?

I am wondering if the O2 is a really good amp, I knew that it has a very low noise floor before I bought it. But I don't know if it is a high quality amp...so please give me your opinion.

thanks

Why don't you get an ODAC to match, instead of a Bifrost?

Should be better than Fiio either way.

I chose Bifrost because it is in a higher tier and the fact that it has Optical/Coaxial input.

I don't think the ODAC will sound as good as the Bifrost, But According to reviews the O2 is very clean and transparent with a very low noise floor. hence why I chose the O2.

But I am wondering if these two go well together ??? is the O2 in the same tier the Bifrost is in ?

I am also wondering if i should get the Bifrost first or the HE-400...

Sure, you can connect them with cables and they will make pleasant sound.

What headphones do you have now? It's usually best to spend most of your money on headphones, so I vote HE-400 first. I'm a big fan of my HE-400.

Please recommend more standalone Dekstop DACs in this price range besides Bifrost , Audio GD and Peachtree DACit

What price range? Also, as manbear asked, it would help us to know what headphones you are planning on using with the setup.

I have the Asgard 2. Good amp. Not leaps and bounds better than the O2, but I don't think anything really would be. Once you get up in this price range, you are really paying for very small incremental increases (DACS or headphone amps). I use it with the ODAC.

these are my headphones:

DT 990 32 ohm
HD598
Grado SR225i
A700x
CAL! 2
Koss Pro DJ 200
KOSS KSC75
M-Audio Q40

the price range is under 550 USD.

I would personally go with an Audio-GD combined dac/amp in that budget range if you need optical and coaxial. If you ever want to use desktop speakers with your setup, you'll be glad you have the line out/preamp capability so that you don't have to plug and unplug the DAC from speakers and headphone amp.

To tell you the truth, I don't like Chinese products, And I definitely don't trust their designs, Also, You cant use your card to buy online, you have to email them which is odd. Bifrost Is American made , is fully upgradable  and gets better reviews compared with Audio-GD DAC/AMPs. I like to show it to my friends and say : hey, here is my American DAC !!!. I don't want a DAC/AMP , I want standalone DAC's and AMPs.

I will eventually buy a tube amp as well. since I want to ultimately buy an audiophile tier headphone: like LCD-2 , HD800, T1 , Or high end Grados ( when I am rich) . So a good DAC and AMP will always be useful. ( good investment.)

Another Question , Do E09K and O2 have enough power to drive my headphones which I listed above?
