The DX90 by iBasso . . . Sound impressions . . . . . . . New Firmware, 2.5.1 . . . - Page 33

Hi all, first post here. New soon-to-be DX90 minion reporting in.

I ordered mine via MP4Nation as well yesterday. My order status changed from 'processing' yesterday to 'preorder' today. However, I did notice a statement in their device description that says stock will only be coming in late April / early May before I clicked the buy button. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's accurate.

I've been running an ODAC with O2 for some time now and I just love the ESS signature. I have set very high hopes on the DX90's performance.

This player is shinning every single day. I am putting to task with some dubstep tunes, the only thing I can say is wow. Deep bass and sharp highs, it's wide frequency sweeping ability is undeniable. It's been the most fun and enjoyable player to date. It's a huge score for iBasso. My only gripe with it is the battery consumption, it's truly short. I have to keep two batteries charged at all times to deal with its hunger.

Can someone explain me this?

Is the 32 ohm load the worst or the best case?

From my limited understanding, I though 32ohm is just a parameter ie. condition, of which the test was carried out. I assume with a higher load the result may be worse and a lower load, better?

I think the lower the impedance, the more difficult is load for amplifier. So 32Ohm is't best case, right ?

Yup, it's a typical portable headphone load.  They need to measure with a model of heaphone at the headphone output, and in this case it was a 32ohm.  I believe as you increase the impedance, it should measure better.  Lower noise and THD.

If you look at DAP measurements such as iphone or galaxy S, as the load impedance gets higher, the measurements gets better.  As you have harder to drive cans, you want to look into the SPL(dB/mW) and the votage output of the before clipping of the DAP, as it tells you how hard it is to drive before it starts clipping.  As for the quality of the sound, you have to hear it yourself, these measurements are not even close to audible level that the headphones will provide.

Sorry, haven't read this entire thread.  Anyone with opinions about the SQ coming from the line out?  I know it depends on the amp as well, I'm just interested to see that the signal carry's the same characteristics as the headphone out. Thanks!

I've actually noticed some hissing recently, on all 3 gains in conjunction with my Roxanne's. Not sure what the problem is.

Playing FLAC
16 bit
44.1 kHz
870 Kbps is most of the music so shouldn't be hearing this =\

Mine is ok with FitEar 335 & UE11pro on all type of files.

Does the DX90 work to supply DSD over PCM (DoP) through the coax to the Chord Hugo?  Reason for asking is I tried auditioning the Chord Hugo and my DoP files only played on the Hugo with immense static that made it unlistenable.  All other audio formats worked through coax and I was put off by the seemingly poor DoP output.  The files were converted with Foobar from DSD64 files.

If anyone can test on their DX90 would be most grateful.  Was considering the Chord Hugo as a home/portable DAC specially for DSD material but if the DX90 cannot act as a DSD transport then it would mean buying another DAP with added expense.  Thanks in advance.

Maybe the hiss is part of the recording. DX90 is resolving every ounce of detail and Roxanne is also very goo at resolving detail. I don't hear any hiss at all if there is no music playing on my Roxanne. A well recorded, clean track don't have any hiss as well. Only recording that has hiss on it is the only time I hear any hiss. There is nothing you can do about it if unless you touch the file yourself and remove the hiss.

Just received the DX90s! Theyre quite a step up from the DX50s imo.

The amp section has no hiss which is great to see, although i'll be amping it most of the time.

Looking at he dacs tho... those things do WORK. like a lot of people said already, layering and imaging is really really well done. Listening to some chesky's binaural recording is quite rewarding on these. I'm also finally getting the sub bass extension from the DX90 that i always felt wasnt quite there in the DX50s.

Only "problem" so far is that instead of album cover, the picture of songs is just mp3, m4a. etc. When the song is playing though, the album cover does show up. Anyone else with this? It really doesnt bother me... im not THAT OCD about it as long as it shows up somewhere.
