Can future firmware 'change' the sound? will continuous play warm the SQ?

I have the standard SE215, SE535 and SE215LTE and both the SE215LTE and specifically SE535 are much better with the DX90 bass wise. For some reasons, the SE215 bass is not as impactful as the other two. My HD600 and Momentum don't suffer from that.

The DX50 and SE215 were more synergetic but through an amp though.

It seems to me you need a better resolving iems/ciems to truly tap into the improved DX90 sq across the whole range. I am convinced the SE846 would be a better match, whish I could have a DX90/SE846 owner verify that.

Just saw that there are only 5 left on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1nuuZ1G

Last call until you have to wait for batch 2 in May.....

Whoa....I just noticed they raised the price to $470! A bit of price gouging by the seller if you ask me

Glad I ordered mine a few days ago.

Supply and demand but I am sure they are making a decent profit at the retail price.

I am glad that to my ears, the DX90 keeps the mids back a little so it isn't in your face like some daps. More space and air around voices and instruments. The mid frequencies are done so well and the total frequency range isn't integrated, it just flows naturally, with no noticeable hump.

As usual, I am using the TH900, The HE560 and the EWS10 JPN.

Yes, I would agree, this is like the little brother to the Hugo but not too little, IMO. I was playing some Sara K, What's A Little More Rain, and was thinking, wow, the Hugo sounds great, I was plugged into the DX90. lol

Do you plug those phone directly to DX90 or through an amp?

I am in the phase of knowing what the DX90 does. I plug directly into the 90.

Ok I see, I thought it's just placebo that I find my T1 sounding better plugged in directly to DX90 than my hifi-M8. But I think it' more because of the dual-sabre DAC which sounded better than the AKM DAC in hifi-M8

My volume headroom is as low as 240 all the way up to 255 on high gain. Most of the time it's around 245 to get a slightly louder than usual volume. Really powerful little beast the DX90 is. I'm still scouring thru my music collection and see if I can find a file that would push DX90 into not-acceptable level.

MP4 nation now has the DX90 on their site w/free R3 headphones. Not sure if it's in stock though. Mine from the Amazon seller is out for delivery today

Edit: I'll share impressions!

which will be a better pair

Dx90 pairs really well with SE846 (white filter, yellow foam sleeves) + occ silver cable + ATL plug. A few points to make. 1. It finally makes classical music enjoyable on 846. 2. To me, low gain brings most emotions out of 846. Mids/vocal is in a smooth upfront position. For instrumentals, I would set it on mid gain. 3. 846 has the ability to deliver very impactful bass that I could feel much shake in the ear canal. But when I hear that kind of bass, other frequencies are also sacrificed. Dx90 is not driving 846 towards that way. The bass is accurate and can go deep but not impactful, I would say. 4. I had different volume on L/R channels on low gain, after 2 nights' burn-in (or some power on and offs?), the problem is gone.

Just a quick write up (very subjective, I'm not a professional reviewer). For reference, my desktop setup is a Meier Daccord - Classic stack with the Beyerdynamic T1's.

I've been enjoying the DX90 over the weekend and I can agree with all the positive comments above. This is one damn fine little player. The differences with the HDP-R10 are there, but it's minor. Personally I would take the DX90 over the R10/DX100 just because it's far more convenient and much nicer to use (physical buttons and faster).

I've been using it with a couple of IEMs and it brings the best out all of them, each with their known pluses and minuses.  Both the Westone 4R's and Sennheiser IE800's sound fantastic, but (and there goes probably my credibility on the forum ;) ) the best paring for me is with the Sony XBA-40's. Such an effortless, joyful sound. I just keep on smiling :D. Does somebody need more while listening to music ?
