My best setting with the DX90 for my (custom) hd800:

Eq custom mode, 30hz=7

Line out=>hd800

For me the EQ muddy the sound. With the amp section attached, this muddiness is further amplified. Therefore with the phone connected to the LO, you get the juiced up bass but less distortion.

with this setting the mid resolution is reduced, therefore I only use EQ for pop, rock.

Well, the only thing reminiscence of the hd800 is the driver, everything else is custom made, except the lcd pads. The driver is attached on a angled baffle + the lcd pads, so they are more angled than a stock hd800. Now its still a prototype since I'm not done with the design, the sound is good but it is HUGE and heavy. I will start a new thread when it's finished.

Great, I love the HD800 and it would be interesting to hear a closed version of the HD800.

Hi everyone, received my Dx90 about a week ago. It is an awesome DAP, it has a lot of details and a grat soundstage. Howerver, after 20 hours of use I am still feeling very aggressed by the very bright (and rather unatural) treble of the DX90. I am using a phillips Fidelio L2 with it and the Dx90 is the only source that is having this kind of "sheen". Do you think it will disappear ? Should I change my firmware (2.1) to international 2.1 ? Thanks for your help, because if it doesn't get better I think I'll have to change for another DAP...

I think you have to give it more burn in time. It gets progressively better after the 50,100,300 hour marks. My treble is lovely now

Yes, more burn in time is needed. Use the burn in line that came with it when not listening. It goes through many changes. I have many, many hours on mine and what I get now has no top end sheen but a natural delivery of the treble and the rest of the frequency range.

Anyone use balance amp with your DX90? I'm thinking about getting headphonelounge silver cable, but trying to decide if I wanted to go balanced or SE.

Depends what you are driving. For the HD650, to me that is the only way they sound good. some phones sound better some don't, IMO. And what balanced amp?
