Thank you

Does it have a line-out?  And can the line-out be used from usb DAC function?

Sure does however the LO is used to feed an amp which is an output while the USB DAC function is an input. LO is after the DACs outputs but before the amp section.

Perfect!! As long as LO works with usb function I'm golden!  I'm looking to replace my desktop DACs and curious how it would stack up again the top DACs out there.  I'm a firm believe in DAC sound quality.

Now, if we can get a 64 bit driver, not 32...

Sorry but this sounds confusing, are you saying that you are going to be fine with LO and also the USB DAC function when iBasso will release the windows driver? I just want to understand your position on above.

Now you know that the DX90 eventually will work in either Storage or USB DAC mode which is tog-gable from the Settings menu. This allows it to be used in either mode on the player USB input connector. The X5 is already working in those modes, plus it works for the Mac as well which is not going to happen with the DX90 (USB DAC function).

I hope I did not confuse you. wink.gif

I'm trying to find out when the DX90 is in USB DAC mode, can the line-out be used.  Not line-out from when the player is playing it media in it's storage, but from the computer's media connected via usb.  Will the LO function in that mode.  If it does, I'm golden.  :D

I assume that line out will work when the DX90 is in dac mode but nobody knows yet since the implementation isen't finished

No one can make that claim unless you hear it from iBasso which you may want to email them the question. From the X5 experience, I was able to use either HO or LO interchangeably so my feeling is they'll provide both. Another question is can you also use the coax out while in USB DAC mode. It sounds kind a funny but you may have a legitimate reason to do it.

Whether the DAC is being fed by the usb or memory what happens after the DAC shouldn't be affected.

The DX90 has a line out but the level is controlled by the volume. This seems strange. Usually the line out is fixed at maximum gain. The way it is right now it is basically just a second headphone jack. Does anyone know how to change it?

I'm no expert on electronics components, but I think I recall someone mentioning (many months ago, somewhere on Head-fi) that digital volume control is a function of the ES9018 DAC chip itself.

Good news for people with actual amps and not integrated amps which is what most headphone amps are.  Also means the volume is likely done in the dac.  Also means the LO is likely run off the voltage gain stage into output resistors, typically ~100ohm like a desktop dac.  No different than  my PWD2 with it's volume controlled line out.

First listen to my DX90 with Sennheiser HD 530 II. HO. Hi Gain: Oh my freakin' god!!!

Next: HD600s, Heir 8.As then adding the Meier Audio Quickstep.

The DAC in the DX90 is just amazin'

This means it's no different than software volume control on the computer to control your usb DAC.  I would think it uses an IC to control volume in Analog like the dragonfly.
