Maybe the hiss is part of the recording.

Unless the DX90 magically plays the ambient track while paused... a hiss check is as easy as switching to high gain, cranking to 100% and listening with nothing playing.  Noise isn't signal, ie always present.  If it's not there with nothing playing... it's the recording.

Interesting but that makes no sense to me. Because you can hear something at 100 percent volume and on high gain has nothing to do with what you will hear a normal listening levels, unless that is how you listen to music. Some of the best preamps in the world will have hiss when turned up all the way, has nothing to do with how they reproduce music. I would check it at the normal volume that you listen to. If no hiss, no hiss during playing and it is the recording.

You can do that too.  Just don't come here and tell me the thing is black, tell me it's black up to x/y at z gain.  The GS-X mk2, high gain 20x, full blast, iems... dead quiet.  That's black

Do iBasso even acknowledge this issue of truncating the end of tracks?

truth... I've emailed them a few times about the beginning of my songs getting cut off... they just keep telling me to factory reset...

Hmm... that kind of response is not good enough, I'm sure you'll agree...

I come and I say to you, DX90 with gain set to high, IEM, full volume 255, it's dead quiet. Period, and it's portable... IBasso is the new black.

I'm thinking this issue of parts of songs being cut off might be something in the firmware attempting to 'pre-fetch' tracks.

Would someone try something for me, please?

Would you please place ONE track ALONE in a folder. Absolutely nothing else in that folder (not even artwork or .m3u) - JUST the track.

Then try playing that track and see if the start or end are truncated during playback.

Thanks.

High gain and volume at 255 with JH13 = dead quiet black with absolutely no hint of hiss

I do not agree that determines if a unit has a black background as there are other factors but just for the h. . . of it.

DX90, headphone out into my fi.Q DX90 all the way up, turned the fi.Q all the way up, with both on high gain. Now that goes way above what has been asked for. No detectible hiss. To be honest, with this extreme amplification of the signal with no music, I would get some level of hiss. None.

Now for more impressions and reviews please.

Thank you.  And now everyone knows it's quiet... period =)

I just did it. I actually edited the song so as to make sure I could time the beginning and the end properly.
I did not detect anything missing at the beginning but got 2 seconds clipped at the end of the song, not good.
