Need help picking a headphone or headset for gaming - Page 2

I know they're not bass canons, I don't want that. But I also don't want a complete lack of bass either which I hear is the case with the AD700x. So I was looking for a headphone that has decent bass while still having good directional sound. The HD 558 seems to fit that.

The HD558 does sound like the best fit for you, based on what you have said smily_headphones1.gif

Hmm, can we get a rough explanation or comparison with other headphones as to how much bass is to your liking?

hey man, I seen this on youtube a while back. This guy was comparing a Hifiman HE-500 and the sennheiser HD800, I'm not telling you to get those but the point is if you are going to play games at the comfort of your own home, get a open back headphone, this way it can give you the widest sound stage possible.

other wise I recommend sennheiser momentum over the ear along with a Creative blaster x-fi surround sound. This really make you feel like you submerge in the game.

Won't the momentum + sound card setup would give him a mind rattling bass?

And I've tried HD800 for gaming, good but not using the headphones at its best (waste of a load of cash).

well maybe if his sound card have a software to eq his stuff but it wont give you the sorround affect like that little DAC does.

I'm telling you the cheapest way to go is Momentum+Creative lab x-fi, the more expensive way is the hifiman HE-500 + some sort of amp.

Well I'm not the one who's going to buy but I'm gonna take you up on that suggestion and try the momentum setup someday.

Well as I said in the OP these will be the first headphones that I'm going to buy so I can't really compare them with any. I've always just used the standard speakers on the computer for sound except once when I was a kid I had this random cheap headset but that was more than a decade ago(though I do remember liking them).

Momentum, HD800, and HE-500 are way over budget... >_>

How are the K612 pro compared to the HD 558?

612pro are better.

They're also cheaper in the UK/Europe, but sadly a lot more money in the US.

What's your budget man? P.s buy the momentum used. It will be Ok,if anything it should sound better with break in time

Do the K612 have the absurdly large soundstage that the 7 series have? I find that my K702's along with Razer surround is really good for FPS gaming because of the huge soundstage of the K702.

But what do they do better than the HD 558? Do they have noticably better sound quality, greater sound stage, etc? Just curious. >.>

I'm looking for something around 140 euro so about 200 dollars, but preferably no more than that.

I've looked at the momentum again and it seems amazon doesn't ship them to europe either so I won't be able to get them used either unfortunately. :/

New they cost 300 euro so that's a no go for me.

I'm really thinking I should probably just go for the HD 558. They seem to be the best option so far for this price unless the K612 pro really are better. >_>

Better comfort, better sound, for me they were cheaper. They are generally compared with the HD598 and Fidelio X1 which are both better than the 558. However if you're in the US I'd just go for the 558 because the AKGs are a lot more money over there.

I only paid £112 for my 612 pros.

Did you look in the for sale section? I saw someone selling it. Get the over ear not on ear version.
