Foobar2000, Asio and Xonar Essence One: clicks, pops, cracklings

Hi all,

I have Win 8.1, lastest version of foobar2000, its ASIO component and drivers for Asus Xonar E1.

I like to have bit-perfect and for that I use the ASIO (realtime priority, 64 bit).

The problem is that if I STOP or SKIP a song, most of the times, I get bad noises like "clicks" and "pops".

I am sure that the problem is that Windows OPEN and CLOSE the ASIOHOST64.EXE and that makes that result.

In fact, when the task is opened (finish one song and start the next), everything is good without problems.

How I can solve?

I know that I can use WASAPI (it works perfectly) but I like to have the "bit-perfect" led turned on!

My guess is that you are using a USB 3.0 port instead of a USB 2.0.  Locate a 2.0 port on your PC and try again.

You may want to reinstall the ASIO drivers as well, but that is a long shot.

When I tested the E1 on my Windows 7 machine I had no issues and the same goes for my current DAC.  I am using a USB 2.0 port however.

You can also look into turning off power management for your USB HUB devices in Device Manager which may help, but my primary advice is to keep trying USB ports until the clicks go away.

Hi,

the port is 2.0 and is the one I can use (the other 2.0 are in a unconfortable position and the others are 3.0).

Before trying the power managment I want to ask you: WHAT ASIO DRIVER?

I didn't install any ASIO driver, just the driver of the E1 (asus website) and foobar component (foobar website).

Thank you for your help

Oh, the ASIO driver can be found here and typically allows for higher bitrate files to be played via windows and helps bypass some of the processing that windows does with its codec.

You can read about it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Stream_Input/Output

You can download it here:

http://www.asio4all.com/

In short many of us use it all of the time.  It is safe so no worries there and it really helps with playback in a Windows environment.
