Should I upgrade from Bowers & Wilkins' P5 to P7 headphones?

This is my first post -- you guys look like an incredibly knowledgeable and engaging community, so I have a feeling I'm in great hands here!

I currently own a pair of P5s, and have absolutely loved them. Unfortunately, the right can seems to be biting the dust -- it's developing an "emptiness" -- and I'd kind of like to upgrade anyway.

Consequently, I'm wondering what my best upgrade route is. From what I've read, the P7s are most definitely near top-of-class, but over-priced at $400. I'm leaning toward them mostly because I trust B&W, but I am quite ignorant to what else is out there. I'm not *too* concerned about the price, but don't want every nickel squeezed out of me either. I have two questions:

  • Is there a *better* option than the P7s for $400?
  • Is there something *cheaper* than the P7s of equal recommendation?

I'm not looking for true-to-recording monitor-like sound. I love the "fun," colorful sound that the P5s offer. Crisp treble is important, but I also like rich bass that isn't overpowering. Something that shares these sound characteristics (from what I've read, the P7s reflect the P5s' signature) would be excellent.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
