AD900X vs K702 vs MA900 Vs X1

Which one of these headphones has the best soundstage , imaging and bass ?

The K 702 has the biggest and I would say the best sound stage.  It also has the best imaging.  It has the smallest slam, density and impact.

The X1 certainly has the most bass.  Whether or not it has the best bass probably will depend on what sound signature you prefer.  The X1 is the least neutral of this group.

The AD900X & MA900 & X1 headphones will work with or without a headphone amplifier.

(a nice low impedance headphone would be preferred).

You going to want to use the K702 with a decent headphone amplifier.

What sources are you plugging the headphones into?

I will buy the E09K soon and couple it with the E17. So I guess it will drive the K702 fine.

I am looking for a headphone with airy and huge soundstage that also has stellar instrument placement(definition?).. I want to be able to tell exactly where the instruments are...so basically amazing separation and placement.

I already have three headphones: A700x , HD598 , DT990 , I want better..Better soundstage and better instrument separation and placement...

I find that the A700x sounds much better than HD598 ... basically HD598 < A700x < DT990

I read a review here on head-fi where this person compared the AD900x with the MA900 , and he said that AD900x has the bigger soundstage but MA900 has the better placement.

So I maybe be looking at a Bassier more fun version of MA900 with I guess a bit bigger soundstage...

Which one of these headphones meet my requirements...if you have other recommendations please tell me so....

I have owned the DT-990 and Q701. The Q701 is not the K702, I know, but they should be close enough that this is helpful anyway.

The Q701 has a way bigger soundstage than the DT-990. To me, the soundstage of the DT-990 is like a sphere maybe 2 to 3 feet wide around the head. Sounds can be anywhere in the sphere, so there is a 3D sense of depth, and the sphere is spacious but not huge. The soundstage of the Q701 is like a ring 6 feet wide around your head. Sounds are somewhere in this narrow band, so there is less front to back layering, but the soundstage is very wide and expansive. Almost like you are listening to speakers. So while the Q701 has a much bigger soundstage, its instrument placement is not quite as pronounced. There is a lot of space between instruments, but instruments all sound roughly the same distance from you. I suppose you could say there is lots of separation, but placement is not as specific.

Q701's bass is not as fun as DT-990's bass. I found that the Q701 had deeper bass, but with less impact and body. Less midbass.

Now I'm going to suggest the HE-400. Its soundstage is about the same size as the DT-990's, but the HE-400 has excellent instrument separation and placement. Very precise 3D layering. Also, the HE-400 has killer fun bass. It's deep, controlled, and textured with loads of slam and impact. More detail and clarity in general too.

Can the FIIO E09K drive the HE-400 properly ?

I have heard that HE-400 sounds better than the HE-500 ? what do you think ?

I will probably end up getting the HE-400 ... if the E09K can drive it

I haven't heard the E09K, but the HE-400 is easier to drive than the DT-990 (250 ohm) so you should be fine in terms of power. The HE-400 doesn't need much power at all. I plug it straight into my iPad to watch youtube videos all the time.

I don't know about how the HE-400 sounds vs the HE-500, but the HE-500 needs a lot of power and the E09K might not be enough.

You might try asking on this thread about what works best for driving the HE-400.
