Can someone please explain to me the obsession with having a jack which means an adapter is going to more than likely be needed, whether its for headphones or to go balls out to an external amp what on earth is the point?

dx100 have it , having the 1/4' jack means you can just plug in full sized headphone with this kind of jack without going through adapter which may or may not affect sound quality (I have heard people claim that it does ) , its purely matter of convenience

that's exactly what I meant. 90% of headphones on this planet has 1/4" jack. I'd use them without an adapter.

on the other hand, 90% of earphones are using 1/8" . I dont think we can ever converge on any agreement on this and let Fiio decides which is the best for X7.

DX100 comes with both 1/4" and 1/8" output. Why not put both of them?

There's nothing to argue about. Just putting one more out put wouldn't harm anyone.

with all due respect to DX100 SQ, it is really a brick.

My silly wish for the X7 is to use normal RCA coaxial jack instead of 3.5mm coaxial... so that people can reuse their existing coaxial cables... I doubt that people would ever need that, tho...

* removed, since decision is already finalised, as per ClieOS, this thread is redundant *

3. please produce an x5 upgrade with the same soundsig

4. dual micro sd slot

5. dual dac

thats pretty much all I want from the x7

My dream DAP from Fiio is one where they make up their mind what the heck they are doing, instead of us all endlessly talking in circles, in multiple X7 discussion threads.

It is already in the first post of the thread a month ago, just that others like to keep the discussion going, hoping to swing the decision their way (or they just haven't noticed the update). Nothing wrong with that since other manufacturers get to read about them for their own reference as well.

I concede that some of it is in the first post of the thread.

But there's still quite a bit of ambiguity.

And if that's as much clarity as we're going to get for the next coming months, then I propose that these threads be placed on pause, for the sake of people's sanity.

.

...like? A lot of the unmentioned stuff can be deduced out, in reasonable accuracy, I reckon.

It is also still in R&D stage with an ETA of Q1 2015. I don't think they are going to publish all the spec with a "final" rendering unless they are close to production. It is a competitive business after all, and you won't want to show all your hand in such early stage.

I don't disagree - and therefore I don't see the point in continuing the discussion much past this point - the Fiio engineers need to hunker-down and R&D this thing (which I'm sure they are).

Consequently, our feature discussions here on Head-fi have reached a stage where they have now become largely redundant.

Quite true.

Agreed.

If Cowon guys could make 100 hours of battery life for a $200 device, you guys can do it too.
Thats going to be quite a battery, if an X5s battery is 3700mah for 10 hours you'll need a 37000mah for your player which is about 3x the size of my iPads battery. To quote JamesFiiO:

"Under current technology, a player’s sound quality is proportional to its power consumption. Many famous DAC chip on the market go with 5V power supply since desktop device has very large operating current. Meanwhile, the high quality headphone amplifier also requires high voltage and current supply.

Therefore, the sound quality is a contradiction to its playback time on the basis of limited dimension. For former FiiO music players, we set 10hrs as a standard since I personally think 8hrs of playing time is the basic requirement to any portable devices. Considering that not so many people would listen to the music as long as 8hrs per day, it seems that a little shorter playback time can be accepted as well."
Hi-fi electronics has high power consumption (= short battery life), low-fi electronics has low power consumption (= long battery life).
