As long as it doesn't take as long as it took for the X3 to be finally released, everything should look fine.

Let's wait for James' response (but it may take a while since there are chinese new year's holidays).

You should concentrate on surpassing your competions ----

1) Sony Walkman ZX2

       Solutions ---

          A) Get a responsive 4" or better Touchscreen

          B) Run Latest Android Software

          C) Make Aluminium Body. (If possible avoid any plastic, to increase durability)

2) Cowon P1

        Solutions ---

          A) Get a SNR of 120 or better

          B) Work on improving the Equilizer to compete with "Jet Effects 7"

          C) Touchscreen

3) Apple iPod Touch 6th Gen. (Will be released this Year Probably)

         Solutions ---

          A) Get high quality battery

          B) Make the design more striking (not as unattractive as Fiio X5). You may make it bigger like 5" Touch Screen and a Premium Smartphone like appearance.

          C) Make Aluminium Body

          D) Fast Processor with Powerful GPU ( To make scrolling and loading of Album Art faster and to make the scrolling experience much Smoother). Make the CPU and GPU into a marketing hit (Advertise - the best processing power of any high resolution music player in the world). You may opt to go for Snapdragon 810.

          E) Use Android Latest Version (Minimum : Lollipop 5.0.2)

          F) Make sure that they sound great with IEMs and also headphones like HD 800.

          G) Use Gorilla Glass 4 Screen

4) Calyx M

          A) Make sure that the new player sounds better than this one when paired with HD 800 (which does sound better than AK 240 with HD 800.

          B) Improve Battery

          C) Compete with Sound Quality

          D) Incredible Custom UI, work to surpass it

5) Geek Wave

          A) They claim to be the best in the market, look into it.....

          B) They have 2 TB storage ?

          C) The Highest Resolution Audio Available (384 KHz , DSD 64/128 support)

          D) Geek Wave: A No-compromise Portable Music Player

SO to Sum Up ----

          A) Processing Power

          B) Storage

          C) Battery

          D) OS

          E) Build Quality and Design

          F) Audio Clocks (with Ultra low Jitter)

          G) RAM (4 GB)

          H) Marketing (Learn from Apple iPod Site... How to advertise...Let the trusted Review Sites advertise on your behalf, just make an awesome Device)

          I) Don't worry too much about Price ($ 1000-1200 would be best). There are too many players around this Range.

          J) Minimize Back Gound Noise

          K) Make it Double as A PC/MAC DAC.

Make Sure to Work on a Specialized Power Supply to Eliminate Background Noise.

Don't even know where to start...

"Run Latest Android Software" - there are too many updates for Samsung, LG or Sony to keep up with their flagship products and you want for relatively small company like FiiO to use latest... It's more important that software is stable and polished. You don't need 99% of Android capabilities in DAP.

"Get a SNR of 120 or better" - is anybody honestly think that you will hear difference between let say 118 and 124? It's just  technical capabilities, usually not physically possible for human to hear

"Work on improving the Equilizer to compete with "Jet Effects 7" " - while well implemented equalizer may come in handy, effects like this are in direct contradiction to what audiophile product is.

"Get high quality battery" - battery in DAPs is usually much bigger than in iPods, etc. - but audiophile-grade DACs and Amps are much more demanding. It's not possible to make them last longer without increasing size of the device

"You may make it bigger like 5" Touch Screen" - because nothing is more important to portable music player than screen big enough to watch movies and read articles and maybe play some games. Who cares it won't fit in pocket just as long as it's huge

"Fast Processor with Powerful GPU" (Snapdragon 810) - ... ehh, this chip is probably like 15 times more expensive then what FiiO is planning to use and DAP would use it potential in like 2% (not to mention that it has built-in modem, DAC and plenty of other gear that's well not useless but not necessary. - "scrolling and loading of Album Art" - for this purpose this GPU would be used in less than 1%

"Make sure that they sound great with IEMs and also headphones like HD 800" - ... it's always a compromise between focussing more on IEM or full-size headphones. What you what is a car that's at the same time Ferrari and Range Rover and Bentley and ... Please choose one or buy all of them and use them in different situations. Also FiiO will do their best by using exchangeable amps, it won't be at the same time but still.

"They have 2 TB storage" - this particular Geek is not a portable product. While there are SSD that's 1TB and lately even 2TB they cost more than the player will.

"RAM (4 GB)" - another pointless remark - music is not demanding in that compartment and increasing RAM is supose to help with multitasking - DAPs don't multitask. It's worth to mention that currently no mobile product in the market have more than 3GB and 4GB are not even comercially available

"Don't worry too much about Price ($ 1000-1200 would be best)." - it's opposite to FiiO's business model and their brand core and common sense

I know that we all have dreams... but let's make them at least a bit realistic

Mister King....

The design of the X7 is already finished. There is not much room for any changes. Also, impossible to produce what you want and hit the 699 mark.

Also, I might be wrong but it sounds to me as quite affirmative for someone giving unsolicited advice.

Also i think you mean they should focus on, not concentrate. Maybe you are a fellow german speaker - very common mistake I make regularly as well ;-)

Cheers,
K

Then make up your mind about what you really want.

Well, since he's commenting on a thread about a dedicated music player, I suspect he has made his mind up  ;-)

I initially read that as you saying "He sometimes seem like on the wrong bread" lol.  I really do need my glasses on when I use a computer lol!!!

I like the X7 concept, but the current design is UGLY.

Humans are visual creatures.  Whether we date, or buy something, first looks count.  If it's ugly, it'll never sell well, no matter how good the specs or SQ or price.

I wouldn't call the X7's final design ugly, but there's nothing special or remarkable (design-related), it looks a little boring.

Anyhow, I think their ulterior motive for the final design was unterstatement what I really appreciate.

Well, I think it is ugly.  The design on the first page (that has been rejected) was *perfect* imho.  Sexy, sleek & beautiful.

It is good to see Fiio moving to a touch screen, and a 4" or so one at that.  That will radically improve UI imho.  From what I've read, the fiio units are pretty well made, and pretty well reliable too.  Their price is very reasonable too - excellent bang for buck.  I'm happy to pay a bit more to get better specs/UI etc - I guess most people aren't.  I don't think Fiio should cater to those who want to get the BEST thing for a rock bottom price.  That's a very unreasonable expectation imho.
