No this isn't going to be some mega device, but it's also been long declare it's not going to be just audio and nothing else, integrating (hold it)  new technologies (*gasp*)

I don't exactly remember anyone bashing the AK240 for having things like (what do you know) wifi and streaming features, yet in the same breath seem to wish this thing will perform on THAT level (hmmmm.....)

But I digress. James seems to have something neat going on here, and I would like to show my interest and good wishes.

As an old-timer, I'm not against new tech, except where it conflicts with physical constraints such as the ubiquitous touchscreen.  But I wouldn't deny it's usefulness to others.  And as for bluetooth or streaming, I don't have to use them at all.  I say "as long as it doesn't  detract from the sound, I don't care."

X7 sounds like it could be wonderful but what I really want
is a portable digital transport, that has just digital
output, no HO, no LO that I can
plug into something like a Hugo.
Superb UI, balance, lots of memory
and with usb out.

One day

X5 has what you need... why would you need something better than a smartphone, example SGS note 4, for hugo?...

there are professional transports, but i would seriously advice against.. if you are going portable, a transport + hugo + headphones can go pretty heavy and bulky...

you could always get ak240 instead of chord hugo, as i understood they sound pretty much the same...

EDIT::: or, you can wait for x7, which is supposed to surpass both!

YAY! X7!...

I would caution against making (supposed) claims about the X7 before its release surpassing >$2000 products, especially the Hugo.

We can hope, but I certainly wouldn't plant any expectations at this point. wink.gif

James cautioned about that as well awhile back.  Though I'm sure he is aware of the desire of many of us that he create something akin to a Hugo or AK240, we will have to see if that is the plan for the X7.  I suppose if any company can come close it will be Fiio, but its main core constituency is China and I'm not sure the Chinese want a Hugo-killer.

That great, however that doesn't excuse the way some people around these parts make it out as though the bitter inclusion of, other features, automatically means the audio takes a hit. (they certainly sound that way regardless of what they may have meant.

Besides, as many 'purest' DAPs we have around here, there simply isn't enough love for the more ~progressive~ among us, especially now. I mean isn't that i thing even dead now? There's not eve any real thread to hang to for a real worthy opposing player.

Do we know if the RSA 4pin H/O on X7 will also work as a true balanced L/O or whether it will have a separate balanced L/O?    I know many AK240 users are reporting great synergy with Duet(TRRS-to-RSA connection), and was wondering if I would be able to get similar results with the X7.  I know that the AK240 TPRS jack is basically an H/O, but thought FiiO could do even better...

What is TPRS jack?

He/She probably means TRRS

That's right.

If the X7 is on par with the 240, for that price, people should be very happy. Coming from someone who owns a 240, I'm completely happy with it, and even the "ridiculous" price I paid. It's an amazing device on every level. If people could get the same performance, similar functionality, and save a ton of money, who wouldn't be happy? Everyone talks of how easy it should be the sound better than the 240 or Hugo, but damn have any of you heard these devices? They sound incredible and are built very, very well (some minor issues). If Fiio can match that at $700... That's a huge win for everyone, except AK, which will hopefully bring them back to Earth with prices or make them step up their game again.

hugo is on a demo listening on the best audio shop in romania.

I am pretty sure that the sound can be matched at half the price...

about x7, it doesn't have to beat most necesarly, but if it could come close it would be sweet.

i dont understand why the most expensive PORTABLE players have the worst battery life. am i only one, who want hi-fi player with good battery? i wouldnt mind spending my month salary (thats what x7 and Ibasso DX100 costs in my country) just for music player but what for is player with less than 10 hours of playback for? recently i sold my fiio x3 for new nwz a15, because i couldnt take its battery life anymore. zx1, ibasso 100 and now fiio x7... all aim for big display, android, wifi, etc.. i wouldnt mind to spend more money on something with stronger chip and amp than nwz a15 but there is nothing. I hope, that after their overpriced multi function toys Ibasso or Fiio or Sony comes with something simple with focus on music and endurance.

Portables need batteries, the bigger the battery the bigger the player, the bigger the player the less portable it becomes.  I have no issues with 8-10 hours of play time.  Are you listening for 8 hours straight?
