Pure i-20 dock - should ipod/iphone volume work ?

Thread Starter
I have a Pure i-20 dock that I using with a 4th gen ipod touch and am still not clear whether I should expect the volume control slider on the device (ipod, iphone) to work or not. Because sometimes it does work like a normal volume control and sometimes it just doesn't. When I say it doesn't I mean I can slide it back and forth between Min to Max but there is no change in the volume. At other times it will work fine. So I just wanted to check with other i-20 users what is the normal/expected operation and what is not ?
I am using the dock with its analog outputs to a home audio receiver.

Also, how do I know if its taking the analog line out signal or the raw digital stream from the ipod ?

I have the same setup driving my system. Sometimes the iPod does not dock/sync correctly and the volume stops working. The remote should change the volume and the iPod slider should move along with it. Using the slider by hand should also change the volume. The analog output of the i20 is driven by the i20 DAC.
