Finally my 1500th post: SUPREMUS!

So finally, after originally finding this page while looking for replacements for broken ipod buds, my 1500th post and it’s only taken me almost 10 years, must be one of the slowest ever. After an initial burst I’ve only sporadically been on, usually if I need some new gear. The rest of the time I’m just enjoying the music. I guess that makes me a music lover more than an audiophile, thank god because I really hate that term. But then maybe this list of gear I’ve owned indicates otherwise?

PHONES

Shure E3C

Beyer DT250

Beyer DT880

Senn CX300

UE metro-fi

Goldring canal phones

Shure E4C

AT ES7

Senn HD-25

AT ESW9

Ety ER-4S*

Koss A250*

AT CK7*

Hifiman RE0

Hifiman RE2

Sony SA5000

Hifiman RE400

AT AD900X

Senn Momentum

B&W P5

Beyer DT1350

AT AD2000X

Fischer DBA02II

B&O H6*

AT IM02*

AMPS

Altoid C-moy

PA2V2

Rockhopper M3

Xin Supermini

Firestone Cute

RSA Tomahawk

XCan V3

Headstage Arrow*

SOURCES

iMod 4G

iMod 5.5G*

Sony ZX1

Sabre DAC*

* = still owned and not for sale

What are the highlights from that list?

Open: The Koss A250. I paid $100 bucks for these, some people got them for $30 when Koss dumped them on eBay. Killer headphones, fast, balanced, neutral, detailed.

Closed: B&O H6. I’ve tried a lot of closed portables but really struggled to find one that has natural, balanced and detailed sound and good ergonomics. For me the H6 finally gets there. It’s the DT1350 with full size cups and a shorter, swappable, smart phone cable.

IEM: The ER-4S, perfect to me, detail and extension without harshness or coloration, sadly I can’t tolerate the deep insertion. [edit. I've just decided to re-buy these. I want to have a pair to use from time to time and to measure other phones again. I'm also curious to try the new glider tips.[

Amp: Headstage Arrow, so small, so much power, so much battery, so many features…

Source: the shortness of my source list tells you everything about the iMods. Their only negative for me is I like a really slimmed down portable rig so prefer a single unit. We’ll see whether the Sony lasts the test of time.

Grats! 1500 posts in 10 years is actually showing a lot of restraint on your part... haha.

Wow, this is interesting. It's neat to see someone who reach supremus shortly before I will myself. The part that I find interesting is that both of us have had a considerable list of gear (your's more so than mine) and yet we haven't crossed paths on any of the same gear. It really shows how everyone's tastes vary. I've been curious about the ER-4S since I enjoyed my HF3, but I ended up getting a custom IEM instead. I haven't owned a single piece of equipment on your list, but I've auditioned 2 of them: the DT880 and DT250.

Congratulations on hitting the 1,500 mark.

I think what gear you've had depends partly on what is in vogue, partly what's available, partly the direction your tastes takes you and partly fluke. It's interesting though reading back through long threads how much gear shifts according to trend.

I would definitely check out the ER-4 at some point. It has been a constant benchmark for as long as I've been on head-fi. That doesn't happen by accident.

Hey, redrich......

Good to see you still on the forum.

Loved your coffee.

I didn't get to visit the coffee venues you mentioned.
