Connect Miridan Explorer to Amp?

Hi, I wonder if it is possible to connect a Meridian Explorer to an external headphone amp without any problems. I was thinking about getting something from Shiit, then connecting a 3,5 to RCA to my Explorer. This DAC is more of an on the go thing and has it's own amp built in.

However I read that "It’s best to use Explorer’s fixed (2v RMS) output when connecting to an amplifier. This bypasses Explorer’s headphone amplifier and volume control to provide a true fixed & direct output.". Now I have no idea what 2v RMS means, but next to the 3,5 headphone out there's an out with a red light, so something optical I guess.

Also, how would this compare to getting a Shiit DAC and paring that with a Shiit Amp?
