Advice needed on upgrading my IE8 to some UM Merlin's

Dear Head-Fi members.

Due i aim a new member here, (this is my first post) i have read and learned a lot on this forum.

And i think it is time to upgrade my sennheiser IE8's to some custom ones.

Since i like the sound of the IE8 sub-bass, it isn't accurate enough and it bleeds to hard towards the middle losing a lot of musical information definitely compared to my HD650.

So i have begun my search for some new ones and after reading a lot of reviews about universal/custom IEM's i think that the extensive review of the UM merlin's done by project86 putted me a cross the line http://www.head-fi.org/t/566965/review-unique-melody-merlin-hybrid-dynamic-balanced-armature-custom-iem

From all the reviews i have read i think the Merlin's are the best CIEM's if deep house / Techno is your genre, since they are bass driven and is their main focus they don't lose the precious Mids out of sights.

(If you disagree please post it in the comment section below if you think there are better IEM's suited for my style of music)

Of course i want to go mobile.

For home i use mainly ASUS Essence STX or Little Dot MKIII Tube AMP. So not really a problem there.

But for mobile i use well....My Google Nexus 5 (By LG) :o

And since i don't have the budget for buying a NZW-ZX1 or anything in that order, i need a good portable AMP-DAC

that makes the Merlin shine and fits it's style. with a budget around 250-300$ max.

I have read some reviews and it seems that the JDS Labs C5D Amp-DAC matches quite close to my kind of music and the merlin's

for that kind of money.

Still i will be spending a 1000$ so i want to be sure this is the best bang for buck.

So is this combo a good marriage or do you see other options?

Thx for in advance for the advice

Grtz.

Hmm, there are lots of iems great for house and techno. JH13 is also good. Less mid bass, same(but deeper) sub-bass, and more mids when compared to Merlin. 3DD might also be good too. 3DD measures ultra well(although I thought it sounded mediocre). If you don't mind getting universals, SE846+Bass filter will serve you really good as well. Personally, I'm not a big fan of UM signature. I'm much more UE and JH kind of a person.

Also, if you want to hear the best bass any iem offers, Sony EX1000 actually can bring you close to the absolute best, with out having to reach the summit-fi price. It actually outperforms my UERM in terms of bass, as is on par with JH13 in terms of bass impact, which is just amazing.

Thx for the advice kimvictor, i will look into it.

UPDATE:

---------

After searching and reading for a couple of hours it's hard to find more extensive reviews of the UM Merlins.

Also it's better to read reviews wrote by the same reviewer, to have a good comparison.

So i looked at the neighbors of theheadphonelist.com, since they have quite good comparison between IEM's and both JH-16 and M-Fidelity SA-45 came out quite nice when it comes to listening to electronic music with bass impact without losing mid control and sounding bloomy. (like the IE8 in my opinion)

The only problem is the budget since they are around 1100-1150$, but then again it's better to spend a couple of hundreds more and have something that lives up to your expectations then wasting 800$ to something that isn't quite as wanted.

Still in that case need to choose between both SA-45 and JH-16.

Any recommendations there?

Also when it comes to a DAP/AMP i'm still struggling, my budget for that stay's the same around 250-300$.

Grtz

What kind of UE do you prefer?
I like UERM and UE18. UE18 is bit out of your price range, and UERM probably isn't what you are looking for...

Yes, well there are limits to the what i want to spend.

Thinking about buying some JH-16 which are 1150$ is already above my original budget and UE18's are 200$ more, so indeed out of price range.

And that's without ear impressions.

For now i will look into the JH-16 and SA-45 a bit more, but my overall preference goes to JH.
