Oppo PM-1 Planar Magnetic Headphone Impressions Thread - Page 58

Fully covering the grill on the cups reinforces the bass quite a bit and the soundstage is collapsed.  Fairly typical of the response when covering any open can.

I kept thinking and worrying myself about it but I kept checking as
I was wearing the leathers in that pic.
But I did not experience any difference in this much coverage.
The leathers also gave slight isolation both in and out.
Overall, A bit less open sound than the velours.

I cannot confirm about more coverage like your hands because I did not try, at the time.

I am now on the velours which seem more open and NOTHING affects them.
I tried covering with my hands and no discernible difference.
There was a bit more bass if I pressed in but hardly noticeable.
This must be attributed to the velours only.

So I guess if You don't squash them or totally cover with hands you should be fine either way..

For those interested in measurements we have ours posted on our site:

http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=4343&scale=30

We don't have a product page built for these but you can find all our measurements here:

http://www.headphone.com/learning-center/build-a-graph.php

As for the sound quality, build, and overall design we are all VERY impressed with this headphone. We're hoping we can carry it someday. If you'd like to see it available at headphone.com be sure to let OPPO know.

Cheers,

Jamey

Just broke down and ordered a pair.  I'm hoping they'll be here by next Friday (4-25).   I'll post initial HD800 w/cardas comparisons a few days after they get here.

Interesting...these do have a similar frequency response to HD650. So I guess the people who said that both the OPPO and the Senns have a similar sound signature are right. And it seems like HD650 has slightly more treble energy..hmmm..

Hardly any difference at all, when I place my palms over the rear screens.

Because they don't have the same sound signature?

Lol ok... I know that sound signature isn't just about frequency response but they gotta at least have some similar sound characteristics.

No, not really. Sorry.

But ... they have an uncanningly similar frequency response (Headroom graph), which somewhat underscores the impression of those making the equation >

It's absolutely a delight to look at and it vanishes when on my head. The sound? Good.....maybe great. At least very enjoyable. But ironically, all I can think of after 3 hours on my head is how good they make my HD-650s sound and feel. That is NOT what I expected.
