Oppo PM-1 Planar Magnetic Headphone Impressions Thread - Page 218

I beg to differ with geetarman49's--and many others'--assessment of a "rolled off" treble with the PM-1.

To my ears, the PM-1 offer extended and finely detailed treble, but not unnaturally emphasized treble [as do the AKG x70x].

In fact, the PM-1's treble is truer to the sound that I hear from my outboard speakers, either for remote or nearfield listening.

Ive had the oppo pm1 with the loaner program.

Love the sound, more neutral then hd650.

overall, I think Id take the oppo over the hd650, but the price difference doesnt make the oppo bang for the buck imo so Ill keep the hd 650

I was very happy to try the oppo.

thanks!

Definitely, murphythecat.  I think the PM-1 is a case of diminishing returns when compared to the HD-650 but, in my opinion, the PM-1 improves on every single aspect of sound, fit, look, packaging, etc. when comparing the two.  Whether or not that is worth nearly $800.00 more, that's entirely up to the user.  For me, having used the PM-1 for just over a year now, it has been well worth the price difference.  I've used it nearly every day since I got them and still am just as eager to put them on every day.

Now I want to upgrade my amp to the HA-1...

I very happy with my purchase as well had my PM-1 for a year now and they wow me every time I listen to them on my Astell & Kern AK100II with my moon audio silver Dragon V3 cable. They also look very pretty sitting on the Oppo stand! Its a amazing combo!

PM-1 are well worth it for me.

It's been almost a year since I purchased PM-1. Defnitely still has status as a keeper, and still stopping me to want any other headphone (bad news for my other headphone though)

Hi

Just replaced the Oppo  supplied plug cable with an Oppo  3 meter XLR balanced cable - to my ears, the difference is quite noticeable - sound stage wider and things have more of a punch. Now play at 27dB where as the original cable played at around 20. (Running PM-1 headphones from a HA-1)
