Oppo PM-1 Planar Magnetic Headphone Impressions Thread - Page 191

Anyone have a HE-6 and can compare the bass to the PM-1 please?

Am acting on recall [beware].

HE-6 bass goes deeper, but it is not as thick, [midbass] warm or dynamically rounded as the PM-1.

HE-6 does not have the tonal or dynamic "finesse"/nuance of the PM-1 in the midrange or treble, either [IMHO--YMMV].

So far I like what being said about the HE-6

A question for mods or just the general community: will this be amended into the impressions thread for the PM-2 as well, or will those of us looking for info on the new model have to move to a new thread when it's released?

^I'm betting there will be a new PM-2 thread at some point.
I'm surprised someone else hasn't started one yet.

EDIT: Oh I may have spoken too soon. There is this one...

Yeah me too but in the meantime I have decided to purchase the HE-560.

Here's a new review of the PM-1: http://everythingaudionetwork.blogspot.ca/2014/07/audiophile-headphone-review-oppo-pm-1.html

I'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but as my PM-1 matures, it seems to be getting brighter (still in a nice way), definitely changing character from the rolled-off cloaked animal perceived by many in this thread. I haven't made changes to my systems, but the phones they are a'changin.

The lower treble seems most affected, being more forward, and the upper highs have more sparkle.

Not knowing anything else but what I hear, I would call them now more alive than my LCD3.

Most likely amended.   The difference between PM-1 and PM-2 is really a choice of build quality.   The ear pads are interchangeable and since they use the same drivers, they are very similar.   Haven't we seen kinda the PM-2 joined to the PM-1 discussions from the get go?   Think of the PM-1 being more of a luxury limited edition of the headphone.

The PM-1, IMHO, are not rolled off in the treble.  They offer more nuanced treble resolution/detail than my HE-6, although not as forward/pronounced in the HF as the HE-6..

Still no update about the availability of the PM-2 ? ;)
