Frank, great review. In addition to being thoughtful, it is also very well written. Your style manages to include both audiophile/head-fi types and general consumers as an audience which I think is quite an accomplishment.  As to the PM-1, obviously you were using a very high-end portable device in the AK240 for your review. Did you also test the PM-1 out of a more humble portable such as an Iphone or Ipod.  How well does it do with more modest source/amplification.

I did not use the  phone but I tried it in a ipod touch and it sounded very goos. It also sounded excellent with the WA5 Woo reference system.  It also sound fantastic with the Chord Hugo which wasn't available when I finished that review. Thank you for the comment and i tried to make it easy to understand. Glad you liked it

Very good review Frank! The comparison between different phones really useful! Thanks for posting it!

I'm not sure why the comparison to the Senn 600/650 is so prevalent here, vs. comparisons to other phones. The only similarity I can hear is the un-hyped-up highs in both phones.

The Senns are definitely dynamics, and can be closed in and lack detail and speed, and feel claustrophobic after a while.

The PM1 has an open, more layered sound with fine detail and sounds more stat-like, or at least like a mix of stat and mag-planar.

I feel the PM1 deserves to be compared to the Audeze LCD3, Hifiman HE500, Stax SR007, Koss ESP950.

The reason I, atleast, am comparing them to the HD650s is b/c I find their sound signatures to be quite similar.     The PM1s do a few things better, the HD650s a few others.

IMO, the PM1s dont play in the same league as the LCD2s.    Not even  close.   YMMV and that is cool - that's why we all have a choice of what to buy.

Totally agree.  The HD650 cannot compare favorably in any performance category with the PM-1.
