No way!  "Gary in MD" is using a 110 Wpc into 8-Ohm Odyssey Cyclops Supreme speaker amp to direct-drive his LCD-3 - and he's very happy with the results.

Where are you planning to get one? I'm also in the market for one but I need it with the Hirose (iBasso) connector. Toxic Cables?

I will buy the cable from Oppo direct. They told me last week that their balanced cable for the PM-1 will be available in 2 weeks.

The cable that you need with the iBasso connector is available at Double Helix Cables. http://www.doublehelixcables.com/store/

We definitely considered price as a factor when designing not only the headphones but also the interface for the headphone cables. The after-market cable industry is definitely something that we had an eye on. cute, example, is already using DoubleHelix cables with their PM-1, so I would expect the after-market to fill in where our cables are not economical or not specialized enough for the user.

I presume the balanced cable is 4 pin XLR, will it come with a 3 pin adapter?

What I am reading is the pm1 is rolled off on top. More akin to hd650 than LCD-X or XC or similar open sounding cans (eg beyer T1). If that is the case I will pass. The LCD-2 and 3 and the HD650 are too dark sounding for me. The HD800 is to bright for me. The LCD-x is perfect. Pm1 sounds like it is more lcd2 and hd650 ...?

I think if you took the time to actually listen to the PM-1, you would find that is not the case.

The reason for my post. I am mere leu restating everything I have read. Not one person has described it as open and airy. No need to listen if consensus is it is rolled off. Again, citing what I read.

Remember this is a impressions thread, not I formed my opinion on what i read here. Try the PM-1 sometime, then tell your opinion.

These are by some way the most open and airy headphones I have encountered, and with a good recording deliver a completely ‘out of the head’ experience that’s almost uncanny.

Precisely asking for validation of impressions from people who have listened to it. So far the impressions for the most part state it is great but rolled off at the top...not a lot of air. I discount the sycophants who say it is perfect and focus on balanced reviews which state it is comfortable to wear, non fatiguing and ... Rolled off at top end.

If I may ask, are you affiliated with Oppo?

Not a employee, or related associate.  I have done some beta testing for their BD players, but not involved with anything headphone wise.   When the PM-1 came out, I looked at the various reviews and decided to buy one because I needed something better then a HD-650, and the description of sound quality intrigued me.  Had mine for a week and half really liking how it has performed.  I am still avidly following people impressions along with several competing products like the HE-560 for example.  Still learning how people describe or discuss headphone descriptive terms.  Kinda its own world onto it own.

No offense intended, I was just wondering since most of your posts were on Oppo threads. Take care.
