Help people stepping into the high-end universal IEM market. If you could only buy one, Westone W60 ($999), Shure SE846 ($999) or WH Audio Roxanne universal ($1,299)?

Edit: WH Audio should say JH Audio.

it's hard for me to give a unbiased opinion here, i have not heard the west tone, and while i have the shure se 535, i have not heard the bigger badder 846..... i DO have the Custom version of the JH roxannes though, and am completely blown away by them. As such, i can only assume the universal version is nearly as good and must give my recommendation to them

The Westone.

I already own the 846. I'm most curious about the Roxanne for comparison purposes. I might get a universal Roxanne when it becomes readily available. I'm in no hurry. I want to see what the nozzle size is because (if it's too big) that would be a deal breaker.

There's not a lot of talk (or hype) about the W60, but I'm still mildly curious (though not enough to be an early buyer). I don't even know what sound attributes to expect. Westone claims the W60 will yield -- “the finest audio available today from any earphone”. We shall see....

I haven't explored the full potential of my 846 yet. I'm still on the “neutral” filter. I'm saving the "warm" filter for a later date (all the while thinking it is the best one for me).  If I could get my source to maintain its best sound quality 100% of the time, I might consider myself done with my portable equipment search (at least for a while). I guess as long as you spend time on this forum (window shopping) you are never really done.

Looks like we have a winner: the meaningless option. So does that mean buy neither?

I decided on the Universal 1964 Ears V8 @ $775. But I am a contrarian.

EDIT: I get them tomorrow.

Without any reviews or history or even trying them? aren't they custom too meaning you can't return them?

Edit: I see you already have the JH16. So I guess not much interest in the possibly redundant sounding Roxanne.

I had some conversations with the folks over at 1964 - and based on their other stellar products (Highly regarded V6-Stage, V6, V3..etc..) I am comfortable that they will be a TOTL headphone - like a V6 Stage with more low end - I wanted something high end that was different and that I could share with others... "Hey bro - these have 16 little speakers!"

I have heard great things about the Shure, but also some things that turned me off - I wasn't going to spend the $$ for the Roxanne - you're right, I love my JH16, but this is different. I have a custom Westone and a Universal Westone - so a grand for more BA's with a Westone signature didn't float my boat.

I don't mind being a guinea pig here - for the money, these stand to be an amazing set of cans - this will be my third set of 8 BA headphones - I had an 8A from Heir. There is something about that configuration I like. I really don't see much downside.

But aren't they based in Portland? I heard that's a really weird city.

Why is it taking JH so long to put out the Roxanne universals? It's the same thing as the customs technologically, basically.
