First pair of HiFi 'phones to be used with iPhone

Hello! I'm really new here, but excited to get into HiFi equipment. Everything is rather confusing, so I hoped my own thread would lead to more specific help.

So, I am looking for a nice pair of over-ear headphones that would work well with the iPhones, sans amp. Goal: stay under $200.

Looking around, I found the Audio-Technica ATH M50, the Sony MDR ZX700, and the Grado SR80i. They look like good quality, well priced, and I think can be powered by an iPhone.

A recommendation for one of these or a similar item would be appreciated!

Are you looking for portable or home use?

Definitely portable, so I can listen out and about.

Do you need isolation?  If so, forget about the SR80.   I think the M50 is too big for portable use (and the cable is long).

Do you like a bass heavy headphone?  What music do you listen to?  How about an IEM?

I have a nice pair of ue6000s for sale in the for sale and trade thread, check it out here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/710763/logitech-ue6000-black-free-shipping-to-conus-only-price-drop

The ue6000 at the current going prices are and absolute killer headphone and will provide sound way above their price range.

Isolation would be great. And I like a fair amount of bass, so long as it's not all gross. I mostly listen to electronic, but I still like everything to sound nice for my fair share of orchestral, piano, the whole spectrum or whatever (except country... just sayin').

Here are a couple of suggestions:  Martin Logan Mikros 90 and Sennheiser PX100.

IEM:  Vsonig GR07

DJ1001's UE6000s aren't bad either.

I am particularly interested in over-ear...
But I'm not the expert here, so if over-ear ain't in the spectrum, I'll look at what is.

BTW, are headsets not considered "portable" actually not portable? I mean, a little bulk I can handle, but if it's something more, I guess I'll stick with the "portable" options.

The UE6000's seem like a good option for you. They are portable, come with a case, and even have a detachable cable. I think you'd be more happy w/ them than with the M50's.

I think the DT770 is something you should definitely consider.  Bass heavy, but not totally unbalanced sounding.  Mine was the 80 ohm model however,  several years before the iPhone and I used to plug it into a Sansa player. (so as a warning  I am not speaking from first hand experience).  The 32 ohm model should be a perfect match for your iPhone though... plenty loud and dynamic without an amp.

Good Luck with whatever you choose!!
