HELP! Sound Blaster ZXR - Horribly Hissy Microphone Input (owners please look)

So I got my ZXR a few weeks ago, and have only now begun to test it fully. It's FANTASTIC on the playback side of things, but I've just tried the microphone input and it's ridiculously hissy. Tried the included mic as well as an additional one - no difference. There's constant static!

To be honest I find this quite unbelievable considering this is a top of the range card, so I'm posting here to ask other owners if it's considered normal or not. It's a £200 sound card so I'd EXPECT it to have a half decent mic input.

Here's a sound sample:

Hopefully you have disabled the motherboard's on-board audio? in the BIOS.

I don't really see how that would affect things, but I'll give it a go later today.

In fact, I'm going to try a reinstall of windows on a spare SSD I have. That way there won't be any left over drivers from the onboard sound and my previous sound card (SB Audigy).

One thing I've noticed is that the mic input on mine seems to be mono. Is this the case with everyone elses?

Ok, so I've tried the above but it has no affect on the hiss - it's just as bad as before.

Regarding the MONO issue:

What I have discovered is that before the drivers are installed, the mic input works as you'd expect in stereo (still hissy though) with left and right channels. Once the drivers are installed one of the channels is unused unless you activate 'focus' in the Sound Blaster control panel, which then utilises the second channel for the array microphone. Pretty stupid as there's no way to use a stereo mic with the card unless the drivers are uninstalled.

You might also try posting your Sound Blaster questions on this forum thread.
