Any new soul/funk which sounds/recorded like they did it in early 70s?

Hi!

For some reason I cannot even remember the names of modern funk/soul bands. I just do not have the same problem with what I consider the golden era of instrumental music  - late 60s - early 70s. Back then different labels had different sounds, but almost everyone of them were so nice to my ears, except the record quality associated with that period. Chess, Blue Note, Stax, Rhino...

Curtis Mayfield, Betty Wright, Barbara Lynn, Lyn Colins, Grant Green, Phil Upchurch, Bloodstone, Donny Hathaway and many others.

I don't know what modern engineers are chasing, but the drum and bass sound very rough and sharp. Yes, it might sound natural but not musical at all. Old tracks sound much softer with nicer flow. Also, I notice that many funk band overuse brass which was rare back then.

I understand that there might be not that many talents on this scene today, and I do not expect the same level of performance. But, do you know any artist which is attempting to recreate the music of that era? I just want to hear the same old juice in a new package.

Thanks,

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and The Sugraman 3 look like they are worth taking a look at.

Check out the Daptone label in general the producer behind the record has really done allot of work recreating the analog process of old and the talent on the label is solid.

Bamboos, New Mastersounds, Yo mamma's big fat booty band, and Deep Banana Blackout are some new soul/funk bands that are all worth checking out if you like the Dap-Tone stuff
