Sample Rate Conversion..

I just have a quick question. I know that upconverting sample rates can reduce in a loss of quality. But do you lose sound quality if you convert down? For example, if I had a CD with a rate of 48 KHz, (rare, I know) would I lose quality if I ripped the CD at 44.1 KHz?

bit perfect is always better but in that case it is not a big difference if you rip to lossless. the actual cd may be better if a player can read it.
