APRIL FOOLS! Astell&Kern AK480 Music Player! - Page 17

I bet the AK480 would go really well with the $8,000.00 Symbiote Platinum IEM cable (which happens to be available only today.....)

Just got some news that the AK960 prototype has been made! And it's selling for, you guessed it, $9,600 USD!

Get on it!

This is a hoax for those who take things too seriously.

Awww the casing not made of pure diamond? :(

:p

Well, I guess the AK480 will remain a distant memory. :/

I've sent my deposit via paypal to iriver (50%, but refundable), but I only have 30 days to come up with the rest....:frown:  I had no idea iriver was owned by a Nigerian barrister...

hahaha you mean the chosen ones will get an invoice with "dear Sir, we from IRRiver have a proposal to bring to you, dear Sir. My name is….please send 5000$ by Western Union to me and i'll send you the Unit with 10000$ cash back because you're such a kind Sir, dear Sir, thank you and …" etc etc….

seriously though……april jokes are a quite smart way to scan the market for those who say: me me me  i want i want i want….

Really?  The price of the AK240 wasn't a big enough clue?

AK480 is just the next logical step in the plan...

It would be epic to use AFD and present the 480 as a joke, then have the actual joke be that it is a real, soon-to-be-released product. I would howl if that were the case.

Ahh, but I'd howl even louder than you, because if the AK480 is a 'real, soon-to-be-released product', it will still be a joke, but instead of being a good joke, it'll be a bad joke.

I say the more choices, the merrier. Expensive products that I can't afford don't upset me for some reason; I buy what fits my budget and try to be happy with what I have (like fully-functional ears, for one). I drive a moped like most people here, but I don't begrudge anyone for buying a Bentley, nor Bentley for building ridiculously expensive sedans. If you're going to make a flagship/luxury product, you really can't be bothered by hurt feelings if somebody doesn't like it - it's supposed to be the ultimate manifestation of what a company creates, so I think they can be forgiven for not crowdsourcing the design or taking a poll on what the MSRP should be. Ultimately, I just want to hear what Rudi has to say about this one...

Yes, that aspect hadn't escaped me, either.  Unfortunately, there continue to be people willing to play the greed-game employed by Apple and iRiver - "ooh, you made it shiny and expensive! - I must have one! Here, take my wheelbarrow of cash, NOW!"

Why is that SOOO unfortunate?

Do you also dislike brands such as Ferrari, Leica, or Rolex?

That's not a greed game they practice, it's called capitalism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitalism

As long as it's their cash, and not somehow yours being misappropriated, let it be.

If those buyers perceive value at those prices, it's not your job to tell them they are wrong or in some way damaging your own fun. Everyone's wallet is different, and quantifying an item's performance in the context of the asking price is an inexact science. You don't know any better than they do, if it floats their boat, so what?

I have to admit that any purchase you make is truly personal. Always remember: One man's trash is another man's treasure  :D
