[NEW] Audio Technica CKR series (CKR10, CKR9, CKR7) - Page 24

Earfonia, can you make a detailed comparison between GR07 & CKR9 using as a source Fiio X3?

This will help a lot for me to form better impression how good/bad the new line is.

See, I should have stayed away. Decided to join you, vlenbo, on the CKR9 since my boys bros Ds and DannyBai have the CKR10. I'm always down for for the supporting the little brother first (except for my Woodies). So we'll see how this push/pull thing works.

Right now, the FX850 and TE-05 are the two universals iems that get most of my listening time.

that's true. But trolling like "Hmmm still probably not better than the kc06 or the tenore" doesn't seem reasonable ;)

Not trolling but enjoying the tenores unconditionally ūüėć

Mochill. We understand your position with every new iem you get however.. I think the guys would appreciate it if you didn't randomly come into a thread and declare whatever your into in that thread that has nothing to do with the thread. You get me?. We got nothing but love for ya mochill but there are some unsaid rules on headfi that evidently you have no idea about.

You can declare all you want about how wonderful the Tenors are on the Zero Audio thread and even on the discovery thread but Guys subscribe to threads wanting to get information and impression on THAT particular product of interest. When you come in declaring your love for whatever iem of the week..

What are people supposed to think?..No offense mochill but I personally don't want to see it. I am more of a fan of all things Zero Audio than you my friend but you don't see me going to every thread telling it like it is martial law. Think about what I posted here. It is just some wisdom my friend.

Got the CKR5s on order. Hope it is an upgrade of the CKM500 like I think they are..Fingers Crossed.

Agree....

Has anyone heard both 9 and 10 yet, or planning on it.....would love to hear opinions on similarities and differences before purchase

Haven't heard the CKR9 yet but I can tell you the CKR10 sounds amazing on the DX90..Been burning them in for the last few days. The sound has tightened up and I noticed the treble especially has come out to play. It sounds fantastic.

I think the CKR9 if it sounds similar to the CKR10 would probably be the better value but I am happy with the CKR10s. These hang right in there with my FX850s for certain.

I usually end up goin for higher one other wise id be continuously wondering just how much better next up is. Im more curious if they are same sig just refined (fx650,750,850) or different alltogether ala basso and tenore.

And gotta wait a while for purchase as I just re-purchased asg2, and giving the tenores a chance too. Although the sony h3 for $220 on amazon are tempting

Seriously no fight.  What I have is GR07 BE, which I consider as having better tonal balance than GR07.  But comparing CKR9 with GR07 BE, CKR9 is better than GR07 BE in almost every aspect.

My first impression when comparing them, GR07 BE sounds rather congested compared to CKR9.  CKR9 sound stage itself is not very wide, I would say normal size sound stage, and GR07 BE sounds narrower, with poor instrument separation and spacing in between the instruments.

CKR9 tonal balance, although mildly mid-centric, is much more linear and smoother than GR07 BE.  Although CKR9 treble, for my taste need a little bit of 2-3 dB boost, but the treble quality is so much better then GR07 BE which to me the treble rather shrill sounding, and less natural.

CKR9 has better lower bass extension.  Mid bass level is about the same, but detail, texture, power and punch, is much better on CKR9.  Midrange is also much more natural on CKR9, more space, doesn't feel congested like on GR07 BE.

Well, we all hear things differently.  I read a lot of hype on GR07 BE here, so there must be a lot of people like it, but I'm not one of them.  GR07 BE is never on my favorite list.

The only thing I like better on GR07 BE is, that it is design to be worn over the ear.  CKR9 is rather too big for to be worn straight down, not comfortable for walking or exercise.  Only good to be worn on desk, when reading or working on computer, when we don't move too much.

Though I really like CKR9. but I'm not impressed with CKR7 and CKR10.  So I cannot recommend them.  I have them all for more than 2 weeks, burned-in all of them around 5 days, so far I only like CKR9 from this new line.  Still burning in CKR10 now, hopefully will improve.  But currently, CKR9 is the one which get my recommendation.  Haven't tried CKR 3 and 5.

That is interesting that you say the CKR10 you don't like. What about the sound you find not to your liking? I have them on the burn in too and I dig em I think they sound awesome.

Oh wait. Your using the X3 with the CKR10?.. Aha there is the issue my friend.. They don't sound all that great from my X3 either to be honest. Try something more neutral in sound signature as a source. Out of my DX90 it sounds too good actually.

I have tried all the JVC FX650, FX750, and FX850.  And currently have the FX850 at home.

Tonality wise, I prefer FX850.  FX750 a bit too dark for me, too bassy.  FX650 tonality doesn't sound as linear as the big brothers.  So from the 3, FX850 is my favorite.

The CKR tonality is taking different approach than the rather warm and dark sounding JVC FX series.  The CKR sounds more natural, mildly mid-centric, just mildly.  Detail and dynamic, the CKR9 is better than FX850.  CKR9 might be the best IEM for dynamic.  The dynamic of CKR9 is very close to life-like dynamic.

FX850 is smooth warm, rather dark, very intimate.  CKR9 is more natural, monitor quality sonic character.  They are very different, so really depend on individual sonic preference.

I like them both, but if hard pressed to choose, I choose CKR9.

I use X3 only upon request of Max Choiral.

I used many different sources for my testing, X3, X5, DACport, Dragonfly, and Yulong DA8.

CKR10 is not bad, but compared to CKR9, CKR9 is better.  So for the price different, obviously I recommend CKR9 more.  What I don't really like from CKR10 is the tonality, for me, too mid-centric, and the sound stage sounds congested.  CKR9 has much better tonality, and more spacious sound stage.  Both CKR9 and CKR10 have excellent dynamic, life-like dynamic.  CKR7 on the other hand don't really have the superb dynamic of CKR9 and CKR10.
