Fairly compact with engaging sound: Focal Book XS
The B&W MM1 are also quite good, but less fun.
More expensive, but also better: KEF X300A (as already mentioned)
I had the Audioengine A2 and sold them in a hurry - I was surprised how poorly they sounded after all the glowing reviews.
I also did not care too much for the Airmotiv 4.
Better than Dynaudio's MC15+SUB 250?
I'd doubt it - the Dyns have larger drivers. However, without hearing it, I'd have some reservations about how well implemented those are based on the too compact enclosure (then again, some people put 6.5" midwoofers in custom fiberglass kickpanels in their cars and while they need a sub they can still reach down to 70hz or so). I wouldn't doubt how the Focal stacks up against those other speakers though, and against the Dyns, here's a very important comparison: $1,199 vs $400.
