I only managed a brief session with the Ref. 1 and not doing any justice to its full potentials. However, it is for sure an upgrade to the already excellent 1plus2.

FYI ...I was using the AK240 direct.

Might just have to get a pair for myself to try (even though I already vowed to stick with just one IEM) :D

1p2 is phenomenal (paired with my Tera for sure). The only slight "criticism" I have is that it does have a little bit of sibilance with some recordings (and that it detaches too easily from the cables).

Does ref-1 improve on that? Is it still a perfect pairing with Tera or have there been some design tradoffs made that perhaps make the Tera pairing less optimal than 1p2?

+ sibilance, it was the only slight "criticism" for me too. Would also want to know if ref 1 has that!

Wow, based on the preview so far, I think I'll hold back the LCD-X, and safe for the ref 1! Hope it pairs well with Chord Hugo like the LCD-X

Not sure if it's been mentioned here.

Tralucent also has a new dac/amp coming out soon christened DacAmp One. I've had a unit on audition for about a fornight, however I'm still working some hours up on the unit. You can look forward to seeing DacAmp One have its very own thread soon.

Some quick specs:

:Two gain modes
:Optical in
:USB in / charging
:30 hour run times
:ESS9023 DAC, (up to 24/96)
:(16bit as well of course)

I do wonder if DacAmp One has been tuned with Ref.1 in mind.

Query...

Is the implication in the name REF 1 that these are a neutral set ? From my understanding of the 1 Plus 2 they were definitely not neutral with lifts in the bass and treble. Would that be a fair statement and does the REF 1 address that ?

Lucky for me all my amps are tube amps, desk and portable.. Brings the sibilance right down..thou it does show up once in a while on my portatube +

From some if the impressions it will still be a u shaped sig but maybe a bit less of the spikes on the treble side of things? This is what i gather

In fact both are of similar shape and Gavin said that the Ref.1 is slightly smaller.

Gavin has decided to continue using the same connector as the 1Plus2 and the final version will have a straight (instead of L-shape) connector.  Delivery will take place in a week's time and hopeful mine will arrive early next week.

Cheers

I wonder if it was a sound related decision sticking to the two pin configuration. Not completely absorbed in connections influencing sound personally though I'm always open minded.

My guess is this is more about compatibility than anything else - for example most people who are thinking about upgrading from 1p2 would probably prefer not to purchase another uber cable just because pins are different
