Ermm, just WOW!

These are absolutely spectacular IEMs. Very different to the 1plus2s, but in a good way.

When I first started listening, I must confess I panicked a little. The bass really stood out to me, but once I relaxed into it I realised it just sounded right. I never felt the bass was missing with the 1plus2s. I just never realised how much fuller it could be with an IEM. I felt much more like I was listening to a full sized closed back headphone.

I listened to a wide range of music of various styles including Rebecca Pidgeon, Fleetwood Mac, Royksopp, The Eagles, Kate Bush, Jamie XX and James Blake. I was almost waiting to find something that disappointed... but it just didn't happen.

The best things is, these only have about 20 hours on them so things should only get better :)

I will say one thing though. I thought I was going to have a brain aneurysm when I listened to James Blake's 'Limit to your love'

THE BASS!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure a couple of my teeth came loose! :D

@H20Fidelity are you still in two minds about whether the stock silver/gold cable sounds better than your silver widow with the Ref1s? I'm still waiting for mine to come back from Frank as he's re-terminating it.

Glad you are enjoying it, CraftyClown! When I first heard it, it was quite overwhelming: what it opened my ears to. :)

If you are in touch with Frank iro cables, maybe you may want to consider the new Hydra... :)

I've had a lot of back n forth between the these two cables and Ref.1, Tralucent silver/gold and Toxic Cables Silver Widow. Now its been noted in this thread over the pages I was sure the Tralucent cable was my pick and there's no denying it sounds excellent.

After much testing I still prefer the Toxic Cable with my Ref.1, and the reason for that is because it tilts my Ref.1 tonality closer to 1Plus2 level. Not quite on the same level they still very much sound like Ref.1 just slightly brighter and airy than the Tralucent cable for me.

If I was you I would sit down when your Toxic cable arrives back and do a little testing, switch over cables for an hour, a day and see what you think. The first time I ever heard the orginal 1Plus2 was with a silver/gold cable and it blew me away. You might feel the same.

My Ref.1 will stay with the Toxic Cable.

Thanks for that. I love my Silver Widows and I'm glad to hear that at the very least they will be a good pairing for my Ref1 toos. It might well be that I pair them with the Ref1 toos and then pop the Silver/Gold on the 1plus2s (If I decided to keep the 1plus2s that is) I am very much in love with the Ref1s right now and genuinely can't see me being in a hurry to switch back any time soon.

Can't wait to get my Silver Widow back from Frank now, so I can do some testing :D

Yep, I don't listen to anything else besides my three Tralucent IEMs these days, I've practically given up on the hobby, they never bore me and still impress me every day.

Never get immune to their sound.

Ok, so I'm at it again!

I have the opportunity to pick up the original Uber cable today for a great price.
biggrin.gif

What I'm wondering is though, just how restrictive is this cable? I see some people saying it's absolutely fine and they go running with it and take it everywhere, whereas others say how they have to remain completely immobile.

This is for my portable rig, so I will be mostly using it out and about. If it's going to be totally impractical and I'm not going to have much opportunity to use it, then maybe it's not worth it?

Urghh, decisions, decisions...

Edit: Ok, so I've got it and it sounds Sweeeeeeeeeeet, with my Ref1 toos

It's actually a lot smaller than I expected. I was envisioning a chunkier cable. The pictures I'd seen were deceptive.

One thing I am lacking is the care details that I believe Gavin includes with the cable. Would anyone that his it care to grab an image of it for me? It would be greatly appreciated :)

My ref ones have been collecting dust lately. I have barely had time to listen. Makes me a sad panda.

That even makes me sad and mine are in my ears right now!

Hey Kiats,

I know you've had a lot of time to listen to the Hydra cable now and I was wondering what your thoughts are on it compared to the original Tralucent Uber cable? Which I presume you either own or have listened to. :D

Yes, I have both. Unfortunately, I won't be able to provide a head to head comparison. I only have Hydra 18 AWG for LCDs. However, what I can say is that both the Uber and the Hydra are excellent cables. :)

Looks like I'm going to have to find out for myself then :D

Sooooo, that didn't last long! I've stuck the Uber cable up for sale

However great it sounds, it was for my portable rig and I don't want to be worrying about damaging it all the time.

I'm going to go back to my Silver Widow cable for the time being.

Check my sig for a bargain
