Yes, same here.  I was thinking about letting the Tera go in order to fund my recent acquisitions.  But now with the Ref.1, the Tera might stay longer/forever.

Anyone with a K10 can make a comparison here, pls ?

Yeah I'd like to know which one is better for 80s rock and metal music. And pricing info too. Why pricing info is so secretive is strange to me.

isn't it $1650?

Would like to hear of other comparisons as well, particularly K10, if possible.

I suppose $1,650 isn't bad.  But if you add the uber cable, isn't that around 3k?   For me, 3k is a lot to swallow for earphones.  I like this hobby,  it's just not my main hobby.

Yes, crazy expensive. I'm not sure how much difference there is with that additional $1350...but dropping either $1650 or $3k is very hard to do, especially without listening. The only good thing is that they are universal and I'm sure will have tremendous value used.

More like >$5K  because to do Ref 1 uber justice you certainly need Tera or AK240

Ref 1 Initial Impression :

Running time : 3-4 hours only

Gear : AK240

Cable : Tralucent New Silver (L-shape connector) & Uber (L-shape connector)

Low :

It sounds like a headphone, not an IEM.  The sub bass from Titanic's first track was speechless...interpret this passage with relaxed ease.  Impressive.

Mid (Vocals) :

Harry Belefonte's at Carnegie Hall/Day O & Jamaica Farewell

- wow...the voice from his throat...richer than 1plus2

- imagining precision in an airy hall

Eva Cassidy Live at Blues Alley - Field of Gold

She was just sitting in front of you and I was just immersed in music

High :

The airiness expands one more  dimension when compared to 1Plus2, detail but not aggressive.  Silver's performance was good but Uber opens up a whole new world.

I can't imagine how the phones would perform after some hours on it.  The above just the impressions in a very early stage of a run-in period.

thanks for this great review.  I will consider you responsable if I end un buying one set :-)

Anyway, you initially say that you have for testing "Cable : Tralucent New Silver (L-shape connector) & Uber (L-shape connector)"

and then... you do not mention which cable is used for each result ? ?

Also, can you tell is the UBER bring a real SQ upgrade ?  worth it ?

I could buy two sets of track tires for my car. If the uber cable is necessary then I'm out for this sadly and the k10 is at the top of the list. If the stock cable is good enough then I'm going to consider it.

Too poor for Uber and AK240 lol.

Actually I still don't have my ZX1 back yet. Currawong still has it but I should be able to get it back sometime this weekend.

I wouldn't classify the FitEar (presumably we're talking about the TG!334 or MH335DW since that's all I have) to be "dark" at all. I'd call the FitEars "lush" but between the two I'd consider the Ref1 to be more livelier. Pace-wise, I find the Ref1 to be more fast "toe tapping" whilst by comparison the FitEar to be more the slow dance romantic lush and rich.

I think only you can answer that. This is one of the reasons why I usually try to avoid talking about $$$ 'cos it just means so differently to different people.

IIRC, early on, Gavin stated that the Ref1 with standard cable sounded better than 1+2 with Uber cable, so I am assuming that the stock cable will be more than adequate.

Hello,

I've tested with both cables.  The differences between the 2 cables are the Uber brings overall openness/imaging/separation to another level.

There's been other posts in this thread asking if Uber worth the $ and my answer is an absolute yes.  To quote my colleague to whom with very good ears (still under 30 years of age)...the uber (compared to the Silver) brings airiness, dimension & depth, imaging...all in higher sophistications with power and control.

To bring more pleasure to you, you might consider to have the Ref.1+Silver for a period of time.  Since Ref.1+silver itself already can deliver exceptional performance, you just need to keep your craving [for uber] in check for a period of time and concentrating enjoying what the combo could delivery.  In your next stage, you then go for the Uber and that would bring another whole new experience.  By doing so, with the same amount of money spent you can general excitement twice  :)

When I use my RE-600 I hear no sibilance at all on that album (in both cases my source is Tera). Of course RE-600 can not hold a candle to 1p2 when it comes to pretty much any other music I own.

Oh I quite like my re600, have excellent instrument timbre and really precise concert hall type staging with 901 on balanced and is still one of my preferred combos for large classical pieces!

On the sibilance for 1plus2, what cable are you using? I'm using silver/gold mainly. Out of the album the "worst" offender is Hello Brother but even this track is acceptable to me in my ak240, and didn't recall finding it problematic on 901.
