Recommendations for new headphones for variety of music on the road

Thread Starter

My backstory:

- I currently have Bose's Mie2i of about 2 years old and I can start to see the copper wires in my cable, not happy about this.

- I use my earphones with my Samsung Note, laptop, studio mic and iPod shuffle 6th generation

- I listen to all kinds of music from classic, my own flute / other instrument recordings, to pop, j-pop, bits of hip-hop and well.. all other kinds, too

With my bose's breaking down I am looking into new ones. The bose ones are not exactly isolating and lately I have to fly a lot for my work, travel in trains and other places where I do want isolation. On top of that I want good music. Music should be clear, rich, pleasant to hear and I would love to hear depth in my music. I am satisfied with the sound quality of the bose's, very pleasant to listen to, but sometimes it feels like listening to a blend, rather than separate instruments.

I hope this makes sense.

I have heard recommendations on Etymotics, Shures, B&W, Westone, but I am not familiar with any of these brands, let alone in comparison to Bose's, so I'm a bit lost now after all kinds of general research.

If possible it would be useful to have a mic in the cable, preferably to have controls in the cable but I would gladly sacrifice this for better sound quality.

My budget is 100-200 euro, but again.. I might splurge for 250-300 is it's really worth it. (And if the warranty is worth it.. if I pay 300 i don't want it to break in a year).

If you guys need any more information to help me best, just let me know, I'm happy to supply any information necessary. But if you guys can help me find the best set of headphones / earphones for me that would be great. I lost track in the big supply of them.

Etymotics are well known for isolation, and my Ety ER4Ps with the foam tips are the best at isolating of any IEM or headphone I have used (YMMV).
